Here's what we really want... No. 14 Fresno State climbed two spots and remained in position to bust into a BCS bowl game. The 9-0 Bulldogs would earn a spot if they finish in the top 16 and stay ahead of the champion from the American Athletic Conference. The AAC's UCF kept the pressure on by moving up four spots to No. 17, while Louisville stayed at No. 20.

espn_sportsnation_80.gifShould Alabama still be No. 1? Or has Florida State surpassed the Crimson Tide in your Top 25? Rank 'Em! »

No. 15 Northern Illinois is also ahead of the AAC teams but likely will need Fresno State to lose to go to a BCS bowl.

Let's go Fresno State and Northern Illinois - keep playing well! By the way, Fresno State has two easy games left. They will finish 11-0. They were scheduled for 12 games, but the Colorado game got cancelled. Northern Illinois has a lot tougher schedule... three games remaining including Ball State who is 9-1 and Toledo. Toledo has three losses - UF to open the season, Missouri in week 2, and the Ball State. They are a solid team. If NIU runs the schedule, they are in the BCS game and UCF is playing in the Pina Colada bowl crying like a bunch of sissies. We should just beat UCF and end their BCS hopes IMO.

Sheriff - love ya, but you got this one wrong.

If UCF wins the American, they are in, doesn't matter what anyone else does.

The other leagues get in if their champion is over an auto bid team. So, NIU, Fresno or whoever doesn't matter at all to us.

I thought that was the case as well... ESPN though is indicating otherwise.

I thought it was next year the AAC would have to compete with the highest rank team from other conferences, not this year.

Ugh.

This is the most asinine OP I've seen in quite awhile, and that's saying something...

Academically, UCF isn't even in the same discussion as USF. I implore you to look at the research expenditures and university endowments. We pummel them worse than the 64-12 beat down we used to give them. This is an area less prone to capturing "lightning in a bottle". It's an area we have a significant gap and an area where we're closing the gap on larger schools, while leaving others in the dust. Hell, we're only behind UF in research expenditures and only behind UF/FSU in endowments (this info doesn't include private schools like Miami).

Athletically, it's a different story that I'm disappointed I cannot easily refute without sounding like them a few years ago. Here it is anyway.. 2013 UCF is what 2007 USF would've been had our conference been missing - or just not scheduled us against - a strong Cincinnati, Rutgers, etc. They beat Louisville, and essentially have a schedule we would've slept through and by that I mean until Holtz we never lost to a non-AQ team while in the BE. All UCF is playing sans Louisville is last year non-AQ teams and the worst Rutgers, UConn teams in a decade.

I won't be surprised if we improve enough to steal the game in UCF later this year, maybe even spoiling their BCS bid.

But, if we don't they better cherish the moments because it won't last.

Where?

Like has been said, for this year, the AAC champ is an auto qualifier, probably headed to the Sugar or Fiesta Bowl. If Fresno or NIU can get and stay at 12 or higher, the higher ranked one becomes an AQ. If either are ranked 13-16 AND the AAC champ is ranked lower, then that one would become an AQ .... but only one team from a non-AQ conference will go. That would be the highest ranked one if they both meet the requirements just outlined.

Probably didn't explain that well but here's  the info ...  http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819597

UCF is like a fancy ticky tacky house. Looks nice now but it is going to age terribly. USF is building up right.

The Orlando school is the second best team in the state.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
