You can't tell me that forcing BJD to become a pocket passer helped us in any way, shape, or form.

 

I mean..that'd be like moving a 4 star CB to WR...oh..wait..

 

The fact that Skip Holtz inherited a team that did not have any other scholarship QBs to turn to in the event of injury had nothing to do with that in your mind, I suppose.

Skip had 3 years to pick up a QB, did he not? QB he DID have just got drafted by the NFL. His only hope was an incoming freshman in AW this year?

 

Coach T had no QB either, look what he went out and did.

 

 

Different subject.  You were complaining that Holtz "made" BJ stay in the pocket.  Setting aside the fact that Holtz didn't "make" BJ do anything, I was giving a very good reason for Holtz to rein BJ in the first year.  BJ ran quite a bit more the next two years, including the game that put him out for the season.

Also in that article mentions he was one of the guys fielding kickoffs. I think he makes the team if he plays well in preseason, no fumbles or big mistakes. They love the Swiss Army knife aspect. He'll be a matchup issue especially if they rotate him in at RB a few carries here and there. Can't have safeties come in to support the run if the guy taking the pitch can launch it down the field.

Our O with Skip and Daniels was always a joke...I always liked the creative plays we used with CL.  And we could have done some interesting plays here too.  Landi was a QB, we could have used BJ in a bunch of different ways.  But we went stale and predictive and the D's began to figure it out.

 

I hope he does make it, the more Bulls we have on Sunday the more attention we can get.

The 53 man roster doesn't include the practice squad, does it?

 

 

No, the practice squad is a non-roster set of guys who are on payroll but don't count against the salary cap and who practice with the team. The team has no rights to them so they can sign onto any other team's practice squad and/or 53-man roster (if they have an offer).

9ers beat writer Matt Maiocco conducts a weekly Tuesday chat, and recently he had some interesting comments about quarterback B.J. Daniels. The 49ers selected Daniels in the seventh round, with the initial discussion surrounding potential special-teams work. That might not quite be the entire case moving forward:

 

 

He was later asked a follow-up question about Scott Tolzien's chances of making the roster, and he said that Daniels would make it hard for Tolzien to stick around for a third season.
