If you pay attention to the line that he is trying to learn the RB position and If you read the other article about BJ fielding punt and kicks. it sounds as if they are leaning more towards using him in a roll as an all purpose back rather than a QB. Which is what many of us on here said he would be better at all along. That said, he was still our only viable option at QB last year.

Just shows what a failure we had in Skip Holtz and crew's ability to coach our players.

Thanks for the input, Negative Nancy ... Skip and crew's failure manifested itself on the defensive side of the ball, not with BJ.

Every report in regards to BJ has said that he's been doing well in some way or another. That one said he struggled on day one, but day two he was lights out. And we hear about the coaches saying they'll use him however they can, and BJ saying he's willing to be used wherever they want to put him...

I think he makes their roster. As something. A strong, athletic body to be placed wherever they'd like to fit him.

I'm not surprised about him juking Willis. BJ always was elusive and had to keep many many plays alive in that broken pocket we had.

You can't tell me that forcing BJD to become a pocket passer helped us in any way, shape, or form.

I mean..that'd be like moving a 4 star CB to WR...oh..wait..

You can't tell anyone that BJ was forced to become a pocket passer. If you think that he was, then you know very little about football. We didn't run as many wild ass plays as we used to, but he was far from forced to be a pocket passer.

If true, it looks like it gave us leads in games that the defense and/or kicker **** the bed on. The offense set a couple of team records in 2011. I think BJ is top 3 in BE total yardage, despite a shortened career .... You want to keep whining about Skip and the past, fine, but at least have a clue as to the primary reason he's no longer here ... and that's the defense and the inability to have a capable qb available when BJ went down.

Really? Did'nt Skip Holtz say he wanted BJ to be more of a pocket passer in 2010?? Pretty positive that he did. Without even trying to search I've already found this. I'm sure there's more.

"Holtz has also told us they don't want the quarterback leading the team in rushing yards like it did in all of Grothe's full seasons, and again in Daniels' freshman year. Holtz and offensive coordinator Todd Fitch can tweak the offense to make him more comfortable throwing the ball (which they did after his disastrous game in Morgantown), but there's only so much they can do if they don't want him running wild."

I'm not saying this is why Skip was canned. He was canned because he lost the team, the defensive "bend don't break" scheme was a total failure, and went 1-16 in conference play. What I am saying is that now, with real coaches, BJD will progress more than he ever did with Skip.

Based on one article? Let's see how this plays out first.

No, it's based on the fact that he wanted to make him a pocket passer from the outset.

exactly....but in all fairness i don't think skip knew how to run an offense that BJ would excel in.

but regardless...BJ is still a LONGSHOT to make the 53 man roster for San Fran. He will most likely be practice squad QB and the niners will turn him into Russell Wilson to prep for their biggest rival.

The Niners will keep three QBs. It's Daniels vs tolzien for the last spot. Daniels is intriguing because he can fill in other positions on game day. I think his odds are decent.

It would be interesting to hear about what CJL thinks.  Wonder if they have had any/many coversations.  And yes I know he is a defensive coach.

I love how the 49ers are using him. I always thought he'd be an interesting running back convert at the next level.
