Additionally, with the night Mack was having, it's not a stretch to assume he can get one yard in that situation.

Except that every person in the stadium knew he was getting the ball.  Even the hot dog guy.  And they ran the exact same play the previous play and  got less than one yard.

Dumb decision.

The decision wasn't dumb. Running the same play again, with TERRIBLE blocking was the problem. As stated earlier, the entire stadium knew what was coming.

I'm praising the move. That has to be the play with the best chance for success.

Yeah, it's not like Ciabatti was having the best punting night in the history of USF football or anything.

Right, a 47 yd punt is just what we needed at that point.

But...but...Saban would have done it! And there's no way he would have let his RB with 275 yards try for 1 more!

Saban would have tried a field goal ...

Smart man ... :D

Again, you don't think everyone knew he was getting the ball on the short yardage TD?

It have been likely, but the last play was obvious. It almost looked cavalier at the approach. Almost like we were running it while up 20.

Moot point, now.

Auburn certainly appreciated that kind of brain fart ...

Was that fourth down, and was he one yard from a record?  I think not.

Punt it and they would not have had the time even to get the first TD, much less recover an onside kick.  No brainer, unless the record is more important to you as a coach than winning the game is.

I find it funny that you continue to argue for a failed strategy.

He's arguing because the prime objective is to win the game. Going for it, whether making it or not, was part of the strategy that preceded the win so I find it funny you continue to argue against a successful strategy .... because, fact is, nobody knows what the outcome would have been if we tried the punt strategy.

Wait...you mean things can wrong with a punt?

Thank you.  I don't care about the record.  They hadn't been able to stop Mack even when they knew he was getting the ball. Get that first down and the game is over.

Personally, I think the WCU coach deserves some flak for that onside kick at the end of the game. Everyone knew it was coming. Hell, we even lined up to prevent it. That guy sucks.
