While they are truly bright folks, the academics ALWAYS have a tough time grasping the concept that a strong, visible athletic program positively impacts every aspect of a university - admissions, infrastructure, fundraising, alumni engagement, etc., etc. It’s not really that difficult, but wouldn’t it be shocking to read a story where a leader on the academic side of a university says, “Hell yeah! Let’s do it! All boats rise.”

“It seems to me like the dangers outweigh the positives,” the Faculty Senate vice president says.

Mostly interested in their pay/benefit.  Same self-concerns when football started.  Aren’t they unionized?

I’m pretty sure those same sentiments are a large part of the reason why we don’t already have a stadium.

Why is everything a zero-sum game?

Why does every dollar spent have to further academic goals? We're waaaaaaay past college being solely an academic endeavor. This is business. Big business. What is ESPN considering, contract wise and payout per school, to televise the National Term Paper playoffs? Do you think FSU would join the Southeast Experiments in Chemistry conference because they have better petri dishes?  Couldn't all this money be used to feed starving kids in [insert impoverished nation here]?

Say it! Say it!

There is certainly a chance we are at peak CFB

On the other hand if we have a handshake deal to go to a P5 contingent on a stadium et al then they need to pipe down

Who cares if they agree? If not find a job somewhere else. Moving into a power conference would bring them more money for research and prestige. The more the team succeeds at the Ocs the more money for USF from athletics tickets and donors. The curse of Judy lives on prioritizing academics at the cost of athletics.

Usf definitely has to step its game up big time in regards to athletics. This should have been done decades ago.

Is this true? Do the athletic departments of universities share revenue with the other departments/colleges within the school?

Maybe USF doesn't deserve to have nice things.
