I'm not just saying that. I have been told in no uncertain terms that Deion and CJS were 2 of the final 3 candidates from the job.

Know who #3 was? Taggart?

The problem is we have had high-profile failures for every type of hire:

  • Up and coming small school guy? Skip.
  • Guy who had a ton of success at our level and washed out at major program? Charlie.
  • Coordinator for major hot program? Jeff.

And 90% of the fanbase was ready to fire Taggart too, so you could add him to this list... he just caught lightning in a bottle with Flowers, Mack, and Johnson.

There is no one mold for a coach, and anyone who says "no [X type] coach" is ignoring the magnificent scope and diversity of USF's hiring failures.

Jeff was never an offensive coordinator  and being an OC was a step above his role as co-oc who didnt call plays or in charge of his side of the ball. He was Co-oc who didn't call plays and was labeled passing game coordinator and receivers coach. The more I see of his offense  the less it seems he was involved with the passing game.

I agree with some of your conclusions, but the important part is that I agree with them in hindsight. The problem is we don't have hindsight when making new hires.

Thanks for the info. I find Deion fascinating. I thought for sure he would flop (can't coach his speed), and still not sure that his success will translate to a higher level. But definitely interesting to imagine where we would be if things fell differently.

Well Ad Mk did not do his homework and the program  is suffering because of it.  Let's hope cjs find some magic and learns to win in one week against an fbs school. Any fbs coach he beats has been fired. So maybe he can get Napier fired.

I am of the belief that mk’s entire litmus test was how ACC connected are you. CJS got a perfect score on that so why bother to look any further?

Just to stir the pot, Deion is scoring some big recruits.  Could be nice in the NIL era.  I assumed FSU would be snatching him up momentarily, but they seem to be doing alright now.

I'd take Deion Sanders.

His team is already likely better than us now...they beat FAMU 59 to 3.

He have us back quite quick I believe just with talent brought in if he had semi decent OC and DC.
