I think the real answer is USF has to put their money where is or be satisfied with the current talent level. Why would a kid go to a school that underinvests in athletics when there are so many options? Imagine if you had the option of USF or UCF. The only reason you would even remotely consider USF would be because of increased playing time. Why would you get increased playing time? UCF has better players at your position.

Looks like the NCAA will approve a one year waiver allowing seven transfer players along with the normal 25 high school scholarships. IF I read it correctly the 25 would have to be used on high school, but only the seven thru the portal.

I thought I heard the same thing. That's a problem if we were planning on rebuilding through the portal. But it also may mean that you get the extra 7 through the portal IF you get 25 high school kids. It also sounds like maybe you could get 25 through the portal but no more than 25 if you signed no high school kids.

From my understanding I think you can give 25 scholarships a year to high school + portal combined.

This allows you to go beyond that number up to 32 to replace players transferring out. So if we have 5 guys transfer out after the year we get 5 extra scholarships, 7 out and we get 7 extra, 11 out and we get 7 extra.

In the morning paper it says:  Current NCAA rules state a team can sign no more than 25 players to a scholarship in any year. That includes incoming high school prospects and transfers. The waiver will allow teams to sign 25 player plus as many a seven transfer - not high school players - to replace those who transfer out in the first term.

OK, typing it out, I guess they can sign as many portal players as they want up to a total of 32.

Listened to the TDS podcast telling everyone to relax, some notes:

• They mentioned we've already been in contact with about 5 DL in the transfer portal and they're hearing good things about their interest in coming to USF because immediate playing time
• Sounds like they will also be focusing on the secondary in the portal. Will Jones was looking great and supposed to be the starter before tearing his ACL before the season, just getting him back could be big for that group. As that forced Matt Hill whose never played safety to be our starting safety a few days before the season started. With 4-5 injuries in the secondary we've been forced to play a walk on and a true freshman back there. 
• Because we have so much inexperience in the secondary Spencer's hands are tied blitzing as that would leave them on an island. Defense could look a lot different when some of those guys get healthy and we can try more creative ways to get pressure.
