Wayne Gretzky for one. There's legion.

 

In fact pundit wisdom, at least for hockey, is the best players don't make good coaches. They have trouble understanding the capabilities of non-star players.

Only "best" player I can think of that did make a good coach was SOS .....

I guess however he was a lousy player and coach in the NFL.

But a great player and coach at the college level ....... but I'm also not seeing Prime Time emulating that, but you never know.

There is probably a larger number of examples of guys who excelled at the college level and then had success as a coach as well

Knute Rockne and The Ol' Ball Coach are the only two ....
