We lost so many games by less than a touchdown, always with like 2 minutes left too.

I honestly think he could've succeeded, it was just so a drastic change from Leavitt's persona to Skip's.

People say he couldn't recruit a QB but It makes me wonder if Asiantii Woulard would've stayed committed had we not fired Skip. Granted Asiantii's career kind of crumbled but it seemed like his constant transferring of programs and stuff messed with his head, at least he could handle a snap and throw a tight spiral unlike Matt Floyd.

The biggest nail in the coffin was Chris Cosh. Had Skip hired a decent DC in 2012 instead of Cosh who knows what would've happened...

When UTEP put 24 points on us I thought we could be in some trouble defensively. Then we lose 7 of 8 games.

I'm the wrong guy to try to explain this but WTF.

As Puc said he was the complete opposite of CJL personality wise which, right or wrong, was what "they" wanted.
He had to recruit to different academic standards than CJL (ask SilverBull's wife). We were nearing loss of scholarship levels.
He had to move training camp across the State in an effort to unite the guys that loved CJL with the others.
The kids he recruited to ECU and LaTech are not of the same academic standards.
Pretty sure the first year when he "held back" BJ Daniels there really wasn't a serviceable backup and tried to keep him healthy.
He probably made a bad DC choice. Skip is an offensive guy. His face lights up when he starts talking about offense. He listens to his players suggestions and considers them thoughtfully. No rash decisions.
Would we be winning more games now if he had stayed the whole time? Who knows. Would our overall record be the same since he left?  Probably.  Wouldn't have had the highs and lows.
He's won 6 straight bowl games. That's in jeopardy this year but wish the best for him.

If by reactionary, you mean a slam dunk on paper, you're correct ........ and he was definitely hired to be the complete opposite of CJL, on and off the field.

we decided to focus on academics

I get that it's what a university's primary goal should be and that's definitely paid off on that side of the ledger but it did a number on both of our high profile sports at that point in time. Let's not forget that this was the same era of the Waverly Austin fiasco that, I think, killed any chance we had of keeping any momentum we had from the NCAA run and ultimately cost Stan his job ........ Academics torpedoed both our CSHs.

Is this the official autopsy thread again?  I think this will remain one of the great mysteries of our time.  I know some here say they always knew he was a bad hire but I was not one of them and was befuddled that he could not succeed here.   Some may say it was the lack of will to choke a few guys.  Or perhaps it was related to crop circles.  Anyway, while I truly like Skip, between him and his less-than-stellar assistant coaches, they were unable to recruit up to the standard needed (particularly in the Tampa Bay area) nor seemingly to develop those talented players we did have.  Truly, that was the most disappointing time in my Bulls fandom.

I don’t know if I would say slam dunk when you are replacing a guy with the guy that couldn’t beat him but I definitely agree that he was the complete opposite of CJL both on and off the field...

I'm just guessing there but I think La Tech has put more guys in the NFL since Skip got there than USF.  Could be totally wrong but seems I hear that school mentioned more than USF on broadcasts.

Dang, didn't realize this soap opera was playing out during that time. Per 247, AW did decommit the day Skip was fired. Also, as far as recruiting qb's, even though Willie sealed the deal on Mike White, he was recruited by Skip ....

Recruiting: He went golfing on one of the biggest recruiting days of the year when he first got here. Set the stage for bad recruiting...

Energy & Excitement: He just had none. None.

Todd Fitch: Horrible OC scheme. We used to be able to call the plays from our seats he was so predictable. That T formation still makes me sick.

Game Management: Was he even paying attention?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
