The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Sunday that Mike Leach, currently the coach of Washington State, is not only a target of athletic director Kirby Hocutt but a name that a large group of donors is pushing Hocutt to hire.

"The people who are supporting him, it's not just one or two," an unnamed source told the Avalanche-Journal. "It's like a hoard of people and maybe eight or 10 that are like million-dollar-plus donors. It's some serious folks."

I liked this quote from Leach:

When reacting to his name being placed in the Tech coaching search, Leach added, "They didn't pay me last time I was there."

We have some of that same shadiness at USF with the USF paid, on-staff “independent investigator” Thomas Gonzalez building a case to fire Leavitt for cause so that USF could dump him and not pay him.

I liked his quote of "they didn't pay me for last year I was there when we won nine games, it was also the last time they won nine games"

Easily one of my favorite college football coaches.. his speeches are legendary

This video, and everything he says, can easily be applied to this season USF Football had

"Well don't you remember? We're 10-2 USF and we're just a little too good to play Houston"

It is interesting to note that all three programs that fired/pressured out their coaches that year due to some "altercation" with a player/players (Mangino/Kansas, Leach/TTU and Leavitt/USF) have never really recovered (for different reasons).

I think really the only way you see a coach go back somewhere is if they left on their own terms (retiring, going to a perceived better job).

The most amazing part is that we still have people that can’t admit it was a horrible mistake.

I’ve mentioned before how ASU brought back Frank Kush and he raised millions of dollars for them.  People loved him.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
