Agreed. It's just really frustrating that a competitive sport has any politics to it at all. That the game itself takes a back seat to the money involved. Different rules for different teams depending on how much a network is willing to pay for their media rights. It's ludicrous.

It is a function of fanbase and fan support. If every USF game had 10 million viewers we would be in the P5 raking in the money too.

Everyone on the outside would take that deal. The problem is no way the B1G or SEC want any part of that.

If the playoffs expand its to make sure a PSU of 2016 isnt left out in the future, not to include Western Michigan and their 13-0 run over the land of nobodies.

A slight compromise now, would slowly allow more revenue to the G5 over time

The bottom of the SEC/B1G (*ough Rutgers)...

Maybe for this deal... We make Michigan and Penn State happy; while giving a bone to the G5. Everyone is happy for the next ten years... Until we want a 16 team ;-)

Very doubtful.  And they didn't come close, in the end.

We are talking hypotheticals here but they were already highly ranked, and wins over Oklahoma and Louisville would have put them up there.

They would have been in a Big 12 champ situation where they need help, but all I'm saying is it IS possible for a G5 team to make it in.

Even if it were 5 P5 champions and 3 at large, that is still better odds for the G5 getting one of the 3 at large than being ranked top 4 by the committee. With 8 teams a G5 need only be ranked in he top 8.... right guys... am I right...? Yep.

How many G5 teams ended the season in the Top 8 during the last 4 years?

My issue with college athletics in general

With Michigan, Washington, tOSU and Clemson having one loss, it would take some splainin how an undefeated Houston would've been left out. They are still the only program to beat TWO top five teams at the time of playing them.

I agree a G5 cracking that playoff is difficult; too difficult to make it fair. The problem with doing this and drawing the line in the sand, is you make the P5's jobs easier. They would never put a g5 team in the Playoff if there is a G5 playoff regardless if they are deserving or not.

Only thing that might be interesting is if the winner of the "G5 Championship" gets the trip to the New Year's day game rather than the highest ranked team going.

Then a championship has real meaning.

Im good on a G5 playoff. Might as well be in the FCS. Think its hard to recruit with the big boys now, wait til you have 0 chance at a real championship. As it stands now there is a slightly better chance than 0 but it's still a chance, get rid of that and we get rid of some of the recruits we normally keep home as well.

December madness. 64 teams, regional seeding and just go full basketball style. :FIREdevil:

I agree Houston would have been a huge test on the system, unfortunately they shat the bed (3 times) and we didn't get to see what happened.

Even then look at how many stars would have had to align for them to make it. Finish a season with 1 loss including a NYD bowl. Finish the next season undefeated with wins over two top 5 teams. The margin of error is just about zero, over a two year period, for a G5 school.

The argument really comes down to is a G5 playoff waiving the white flag, or is it a progressive move to try and make it look like you broke up with your girlfriend instead of the other way around.
