I still don't understand why anyone would think Strong would even have the slightest interest in coming to USF.  Especially at a reduced salary.

He has no ties at all to USF.  He is going to receive a buyout of $10 Million.  He could probably take a head coaching job at a mid tier P5 or lower school.  Could probably have just about any DC job at a big time school making more than he would make as a HC here.

The logic of a guy of Strong's accomplishments at this stage of his career coming here as a DC makes as much sense as the CEO of a Fortune 500 company losing his job and then becoming a manager of a Mcdonalds.

I don't think anyone actually believes it will happen.  These are more of a, "wouldn't it be great if..." threads

The only scenario would be to hire hum for 1 year as a consultant to come in and teach Woodie how to be a DC.

But if that didn't work with Tom Allen, why would it work with Strong?

1. Great young defensive players alteady recruited including 3 Juco DE

2. low expectations. Hell if he gets us in the top 50 it would be a huge turnaround and USF scores would be more lopsided

3. 2018-2012 USF schedules are strong enough to crash the playoffs.

4. We play Texas. He has a revenge game.

5. He doesnt need the money b/c of his buyout

6. After helping USF be the 1st G6 school to crash the playoffs, he will get another dream job easily.

Why would he be a DC for a G5 school; instead of a P5 school...

!?

We could maybe get him, IF CWT decided to leave

His recruiting ties are in the state of florida.

He is making $5.35M for the next 2 years at a minimum. Sure, there could be some money on the table for him with a higher paying job, but, not much.

Like CWT, Strong needs to stay in the southeast. His issues at Texas were 1. he was born black. 2. He was forced to recruit the state of Texas even though all of his recruiting ties (you know, the ones that got him the job) were in Florida.

Yes, he could go and be the coach of maybe another G5 school, but, if it's not near his recruiting turf, will he succeed?

I don't think it would happen, but, if someone told me that I get paid my full salary for the next 2 years, I would take it as an opportunity to either slack off and do nothing, or, put myself in position to come out of it stronger.

Not saying that I think it will happen, but, I could see where it could be attractive to him quite honestly. If he comes here, succeeds, he'll have no less open doors at other places than he has now. And maybe he gets a head coaching job in the state of Florida where he can really shine. I don't see UF, FSU, or UM opening up any time soon, so...

It would be nice if these two guys would run into each other sometime.  Who knows what would come out of that conversation.

He would step in knowing that CWT is likely a goner after next year if we live up to expectations.

CWT deserves more credit than that.
