However after watching Taggart for two years I no longer blame Holtz. Good coaches work with what they have and make them better. George Oleary seems to get this. OK, just a bit confused. Hasn't he been there for 11 years? I know UCFers are slow to graduate but I'm guessing everyone on the team are his recruits by now. Thought he meant that UCF's recruiting has historically not been all that .... maybe I misunderstood.

They have never had spectacular recruiting as far as ratings go but seems to have an eye and ability to coach them up

I was really disappointed to see him struggle here. Not a good coach, he's a good figurehead that either succeeds or fails based on his assistants. He did an atrocious job of picking assistants here. Remember, this is the same Holtz that got fired as offensive coordinator at South Carolina by his pops.

Great coaches are the ones who completely impose their will on the assistants and win anywhere ...

I'm not convinced that Holtz is a good coach, and he's incapable of imposing much of anything. He sure is a nice guy though.

The winning anywhere pertained to a great coach, which Skip is obviously not.
