Also, I think it would be better if the refs had to call us "South Florida" and "Central Florida." Harder to confuse whole words than abbreviations.

 

The fans booed the ref loud and long after that call.  And I'm pretty sure he did start calling us South Florida after that.  Edit:  And it prompted a chant of U - S - F as well.

I prefer USF...

 

 

I hate seeing our team name abbreviated to "S. FLORIDA" on ESPN.

 

 

We need to embrace "USF"

I noticed after it happened he simply referred to us as either the offense, defense , receiving team or kicking team depending on which side of the ball we were on.

I was wondering if it was same guy or not.

If the school stopped trying to refer to themselves as USF and sticks with South Florida we wouldn't have this problem

I wish they would do that. I have always prefered South Florida

I couldn't believe that but it got the crowd into it. Good to hear such passion from the fans again.

Not a big deal imo...

 

I'm sure this happens to every school every once in a while. Refs aren't perfect. Mistakes happen. I laughed when I heard the boos.

Aresco needs to address this behind the scenes.  Its more about marketing and image than being insulted by an innocent slip of the tongue.  How can he promote a brand (AAC) when the employees can't even call out the right name on national TV?

 

On the other hand, it could comical when we play each other ...

But it certainly mobilized all 12K fervent, die-hards to boo and correct with the "U-S-F" chant. Even with the terrible climatic conditions, I had a great time in an almost empty Ray Jay.
