Good: Mack, who else.

Bad: There must have been no less then 20 completed Wr screens.. Staggering lack of adjustment, playing 10 yards off the line most of the game, just giving them 7 yards every time.

Ugly: White was shocking.

Overall its a dub. In years past I would have been distraught with a showing like that, however 2013 changed me. We just needed to find a way to win. We showed some resilience and mettle towards the end, even tho the d gave up some garbage TDs. Refuse to lose.

We can't get first downs!

We will be lucky to win 4 games.

Special teams did look great. I know it's minor, but I feel like Holtz special teams were an abomination.

White looked terrified each time the camera zoomed in on his face.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but there were only a couple illegal formations/false starts. That was a HUGE issue last year.

Good:

  • Mack;
  • Running defense;
  • Special teams (Dunkley is going to get a couple TDs this year);
  • Defense coming out in the 2nd half and stopping WCU to allow USF to take the lead.
  • Lack of offensive penalties.

Bad:

  • Secondary playing off the ball.  When they played on the ball, it worked.
  • Dunkley's pass defense.  He had one or two bright moments, but there were quite a few times his receiver made catches.
  • Discipline/focus. How can you let them get an onside kick coming out of halftime?

Ugly:

  • Play calling.  The OC didn't call a good game - the play calls were awful. I was sitting in the stands and could tell just about every call.
  • White trying too hard.  Focusing on the target receiver. Forcing the ball.  Not setting his feet and throwing.
  • Offensive Line.  No ability to push on the running game.  Didn't give White a lot of time on passing plays.  White's problem was more a result of the bad OL play.

Drives me nuts to see a Chris Cosh "bend but don't break" like defense. Against a team like Western Carolina you should be able to play 1 on 1, put pressure on the QB and now allow the guy to throw for 400 yards. Extremely worried about our defense and this new 3-4.

THIS!  It was like we were in prevent D the entire game.  JAM these WRs.  Beat 'em up. Force them to beat you.  Their QB was excellent on short passes, but inaccurate deep.  So, what do we do?  Give them short passes all game, take away the deep.  I think if we're more aggressive on coverage, we force longer throws & pick up INTs.

Very interested to see if this translates against better opponents. But even against teams like this it didn't seem like our special-teams used to take advantage like they should have

Sincerely doubt that was terror on his face. Not like it was his first start ever ..... maybe it was gas.
