If he gets offered Heath money, there is no way he can say "no".  We would be overpaying.

And I hope we get him for cheap as I would love to see USF put more money into finding great assitant coaches.

Agreed and I was being facetious.  It seems to be the "USF way" lately so thought I would just throw it out there.  If he gets offered under $1M coupled with the payout on Heath's base, it might just equal the whole salary that would have gone to Heath.  I too think it is high but supposedly most of Pitino's top players were recruited by Masiello from the NY area.  He has really only had one great year out of three at MC, so there's that as well.

The reality is small college ball.  3 yrs as a HC.  We are getting all excited he's our savior.  We are hoping for Pitino magic.

You're right. We're a long way away from Pearl or Williams. It was the reality all along, of course.

Coaching development of the day: Nobody was hired or fired. But I reported early Saturday that Manhattan coach Steve Masiello has emerged as a serious candidate at USF. Masiello's mentor, Louisville's Rick Pitino, subsequently acknowledged that he has spoken with Masiello about USF, and Pitino implied that he's advised Masiello to take the job if offered. So this particular coaching search could be wrapped soon.

Take it if offered says Pitino.  Would make it easy for USF, assuming no one else is knocking at his door.

Yeah, it is a risk. We have no idea how well he will perform when coaching up in ranks in a tougher conference. However, if he brings that exciting Pitino magic to USF, I will be very happy. And I will go on to say that this will be the most exiciting offense since the Seth Greenberg years. I am sorry, but McCullum and Heath just didnt have that excitement on offense. Also, I prefer that pressing style of play on defense.

This is option #2. :)

We didn't fight for a big-name coach. Now, we are trying to get the best from the small schools. (Say, didn't we do this with football!)

But if we wait longer, we might end up with option #3.

It is great to have a Chris Sullivan on our side!!! I always wondered why Pitino seemed to always say good things about USF even when we were getting slaughtered by UL. Makes sense now that I realised that Pitino and Sulivan are good friends. Both UK peeps. So, I am just glad Sullivan has and will continue to be a support to USF.

I hope he's supporting USF more than making a call on behalf of his friend.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
