Interesting idea though as to which they'll list as 3rd QB. Daniels being active still gives them that emergency option at other positions as well.

Probably will stick with McCoy early, but BJ will at least be dressed either way.

he will only dress as the emergency qb for the most part- which is part of the 53 man roster but not the active roster unless both QBs go down

He may dress because he can be used in other roles.

if he does-- he is not the emergency QB and that impacts the active roster

Looks like he can dress under two circumstances. As part of the 45 game day roster, where he could be used anywhere .... or as a designated 3rd qb from the inactive roster, where he can only be used as a qb and special teams ... Here's the NFL rule:

so if he is declared the 3rd QB he can still play on special teams?  i thought once that 3rd QB comes in the game the 1st string QB cant play again.

1st and second string qb cant play if you bring in the emergency QB

they may be referring to using this for backup kicking specialists-- not sure

either way, I don't see BJ needing to worry about how much playing time he gets in the first year

They can be holders. That's why the special teams. Not sure if that would apply if they wanted to stick him in as a returner. Probably hasn't come up since they changed that rule.

See I look at a running QB like SF has and think it is highly likely that the backup will be needed at least for a few series during the year. So if he passes McCoy I'm thinking he will at least see some action.

Also, the 3rd QB can enter the game but that means the first 2 cannot play again until the 4th quarter

What this proves is what many of us thought when we saw him coming out of Lincoln High School...This guy had all the raw tools to absolutely dominate our division by the time he was a junior/senior.  Then Holtz happened.  Shows you how bad he coached to absolutely piss that kind of talent away.  If you watch BJ in the NFL so far, he's perfectly at home with the speed of the game.  In fact, he made a few folks look absolutely stupid last night while he was cool, calm and collected.

Love he's on that team as that's going to get us some pretty good pub!

Congrats BJ!  Anyone know if he made 2nd string?

No, he is 3rd string.  Colt McCoy is 2nd string.

For now.

B.J. has looked better than McCoy has. Let B.J. learn the playbook a bit more and he will be the #2.

This kind of crap is getting beyond knee deep... BJ finished third in the BE in career total yards. Had he finished out last year, he would have definitely passed White and most probably Grothe for #1 and didn't have the most consistent wr corps doing it due to injuries. Acting like he was the second coming of Banks/Julmiste is a ******* joke just because of the hatred for Skip, the anti-Christ. Holtz had his problems but most of them stemming were on the other side of the ball and game management. Is the coaching he's getting now better than he got here? Absolutely .... but it doesn't mean while he was here, BJ was dying on the vine under the thumb of the evil Darth Holtz.

I think we have more than enough threads on this board proving that Holtz is the single worst coach in the history of the sport. Quit the love fest! **** you!

Triple B, it's the head coaches job to hire a QB coach who actually knows how to IMPROVE your QBs as well as hiring the staff to design an offense that MAXIMIZES your qb's ability.  It didn't take a genius to see that BJs strength was his elusiveness and cannon arm where he was much more accurate on longer throws than he was on anything short where timing and touch were key.

Yet what did they do to the kid when Holtz came in?  The majority of the plays had him in the pocket and throwing short routes!  Everything he's NOT.  Have you watched him play for SF yet?  They are rolling him out and the majority of the passes are either DEEP or WIDE.  Hardly anything which requires him to stand in the pocket and then try to throw a 3-5 yard route.

Rarely does a QB making the jump to the NFL look BETTER than he did in college this quickly.  It's not that BJ is that much better now than he was at USF, he's just with a coach who knows how to put a system around him to utilize his talents.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
