  1. You must mean nice so you can see them because I don't see any other benefit of getting USA, GA State, UAB, etc. on the schedule for a home/away except so Bulls in other areas around the south can see them live. Strength of schedule wise, they are the last teams USF needs to play. Totally selfish. However, it wouldn't hurt recruiting wise. The talent that is in Mobile/Pensacola is just as good as what is going on down there in Miami. Just look at most SEC rosters and you'll see tons of kids from this 60 mile stretch of I-10. Plenty that would like to get away from home, but not too far...
  2. We have a suite here at the Jags games in Mobile so it'll be interesting to see how the Floyd story finishes up. Joey Jones has this program building quickly and it's something else seeing the USF link here as first it was Gregory and now Floyd. Floyd's a good kid, just wasn't a fit here and who knows, not like USF develops QBs. The good ones we've had are basically great IM players. They run for their lives and make something happen. I'll be interested to see what Joey Jones can do with him to see if it was a "USF failure" or if he just didn't have "it". One thing is for sure, would be nice to get USA on the schedule.
  3. At Seattle you were right, but had he stayed at SF? He already knew that offense and had shown he could move the ball. Like I said, look at that list and around the NFL and see how many guys are collecting checks at that position who don't have nearly the physical tools BJ has. They just happened to get their chance which is half the battle. It will be interesting to see how his career goes from here on out as he's finally getting some decent coaching.
  4. BJ showed himself to be plenty capable in preseason as a competent backup to these running QBs. Kitna? lol You'd have to retool the entire offense and that would be a bigger drop off than sliding BJ in. There's a lot of QBs doing well in the NFL who never did half of what BJ did in college and he didn't exactly have great talent around him. Put him on a team with good coaching, decent line and people who can catch (any NFL squad would be better than what he saw while at USF) and he can definitely be an effective QB. Will he be Peyton Manning? Of course not. But could he put points on the board as good as the majority of starters in this league? Absolutely. Go through guys who started games in the NFL this season and you'd be surprised how weak that list is. Harbaugh and Carrol are very good judges of talent so it's no surprise they've kept BJ around. BJ is a young player so he could easily "hang around" for a few seasons, build his knowledge of the game, work on the ability to read defenses, hone his mechanics etc. and then get a chance and have a strong career. He'd still be younger than guys like Weinke when he came out of FSU. I believe if BJ stays on the roster next season and gets more preseason time he'll end up getting a chance somewhere. He showed he's still explosive and the more time removed from that injury, the better physically he'll be. Look at all these QBs who actually played this year... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1904954-final-2013-nfl-season-qb-power-rankings
  5. This is a very strong hire. Anyone who has learned from the Harbaughs and receives their praises is someone you can bet is going to be an asset to your team. Those guys are fiercely competitive and their players buy in due to their intensity. When things go good, you can see it on their faces. Same when bad things happen. You know they CARE. That's the kind of guy young men want to follow and this guy bring more NFL experience in how to run drills, practices etc. and he did it with one of the most successful coaches in NFL history. No other NFL coach has taken their team to the conference championship in their first three seasons. That says something. Love the hire, but we need the athletes or it will be all for naught.
  6. Groethe may have masked the mess on offense, but there was no denying we had talent, LOTS OF IT, on defense. THe program was built on having a nasty defense that always found a way to create turnovers. It started with Anthony Henry from day one and continued. The list of players who at least had a cup of coffee in the NFL is actually pretty strong and was on par with almost the best of programs. Some of that was recognizing talent, the other was being able to get those guys to realize their potential and even play above their heads. It matched his personality and it has followed him to SF where his unit has been nails since he got there. The reason I have faith this will get turned around is this. The key to college recruiting is selling a story/dream. Skip had no charisma, no ability to inspire. Is it any wonder we couldn't amass top talented guys? To make things worse, he was a poor evaluator of talent without the personality to further improve a player. Contrast that to CJL where most players always left better than when they first stepped on campus. Taggart has fire and believes in his core he can turn this around. He has a sincerity about him young kids like and thats a dream they can buy into. He's "cool" and speaks their language. I knew before this season started it was going to be a nightmare unless he was a miracle worker. The next recruiting class will tell us if we're on the right track and I think you'll find we are. Just take a deep breath and stay positive as that's the only way you attract others who want better. It's either that or build atmosphere so toxic that we get stuck in perpetual suck. No one wants that if you love your alma mater.
  7. If you stop supporting the team, then you never loved them. True fans look at their team like family, yeah, they may piss you off and disappoint you, but they're blood so you'll always help when asked and have hope they'll turn the corner. That makes when they win so much sweeter. We knew this was going to be a long season, probably two or three, but this thing will get better and I'll be there to enjoy when it does.
  8. Kids coming out of HS nowadays aren't like they were 10 years ago. They are physically ready to go if they are a legit talent. Here's the thing, if they are really good, you won't see 4 years any way. That's why Saban is so lethal. If you are a stud, he finds a way to put you on the field at least some and that sucks the next 3 studs in behind that guy. The only guys who should be redshirting are a QB and OL.
  9. Triple B, it's the head coaches job to hire a QB coach who actually knows how to IMPROVE your QBs as well as hiring the staff to design an offense that MAXIMIZES your qb's ability. It didn't take a genius to see that BJs strength was his elusiveness and cannon arm where he was much more accurate on longer throws than he was on anything short where timing and touch were key. Yet what did they do to the kid when Holtz came in? The majority of the plays had him in the pocket and throwing short routes! Everything he's NOT. Have you watched him play for SF yet? They are rolling him out and the majority of the passes are either DEEP or WIDE. Hardly anything which requires him to stand in the pocket and then try to throw a 3-5 yard route. Rarely does a QB making the jump to the NFL look BETTER than he did in college this quickly. It's not that BJ is that much better now than he was at USF, he's just with a coach who knows how to put a system around him to utilize his talents.
  10. What this proves is what many of us thought when we saw him coming out of Lincoln High School...This guy had all the raw tools to absolutely dominate our division by the time he was a junior/senior. Then Holtz happened. Shows you how bad he coached to absolutely piss that kind of talent away. If you watch BJ in the NFL so far, he's perfectly at home with the speed of the game. In fact, he made a few folks look absolutely stupid last night while he was cool, calm and collected. Love he's on that team as that's going to get us some pretty good pub!
  11. Yeah, that fraternity you were in was a pretty good one. Frish is right, many of us that fall lived in Fontana with the team that first year they began practicing so it's hard to get any closer to the program as many of us were in those first few years. That first game (80-3) was something! We all thought, holy hell, we knew we'd beat this team, but if we beat them this bad how good are we? Will we be ranked in our first season? ha ha. So happy to see this season kick off and it's especially sweet at CWT is an alumni like most of my family with the men playing football and women cheerleaders there at MHS. Looking forward to a great season win or lose...at least I'll be able to tell CWT cares which will be a drastic improvement.
  12. Here's the thing about Daniels...SKIP HAD NO CLUE HOW TO MAXIMIZE HIS POTENTIAL. Also doesn't help BJ received little to no help fine tuning the finer points of being a QB. He has all the tools to be a serviceable NFL QB in an offense that plays to a mobile QB. I like his chances over McCoy and T bc if you're going to run an offense built off of mobility at QB, then all 3 QBs should be Mobile. Harbaugh gets this as much as Skip did not. I'm not saying he's going to come in and light the league on fire, I don't think he will as he's still a little on the short side which will cost him reading some patterns, HOWEVER, there's no reason he couldn't have a lengthy career as a backup QB just like you've seen with Seneca Wallace. Same type of guy. Not much of a passer, but if your QB goes down, he can move the chains enough to spell the defense who can keep shutting down an opposing offense with the occasional drive to get that one to two FGs late to have a chance to pull it out. One thing about Mobile QBs is they RUN CLOCK. Everything you want out of a backup if you're on a team like SF where their Defense has shut down capability. That kind of team can make a 10 point lead look insurmountable if they can eat just a few minutes per possession after that point. If he had gone about anywhere else, I would've bet the house he didn't make an NFL roster, especially at QB. When he went to SF, the odds easily went 50-50.
  13. CWT sees him every day and one thing about Floyd I love is he BLEEDS green and gold. That alone will elevate others on the offense to play their heart outs for the guy. If that leads to good blocking up front and a running game, he won't have to be Peyton Manning back there to be effective. Look, if we can run the ball and play some decent defense, then leadership on the field to execute the details is all you need at QB. Floyd is still a young kid so guys need to temper expectations. Most guys break out their Junior/Senior year so he could end up being an absolute stud though this year could still be one of growing pains. Keep that in mind.
  14. Dads often don't know how old their children are. We used to go get lobster every year in the keys from when I was a kid. I was a year or two in college and we pull up to the tiki hut and dad orders me a beer. Turns to me and says, you're 21 right? Half the time as dads, we barely know how old we are let alone keep track of kids, anniversaries etc...
  15. Remember the conference we're going to be in...this guy is going to put up sick stats.
  16. Puke...Rutgers beating a team from Tampa in baseball...pathetic...
  17. Unreal to see college pitchers with such lack of control. The lack of proper mechanics these days is astounding.
  18. Not sure about walking that guy. now a walk kills ya.
