LOL Trip. Come on Bullwinkle, you're better than making an apples to oranges comparison like that. He sounds like a great athlete, but those completion percentages are awful. Then again, his team (or lack thereof) could be a reason. I think White has a chance to be special in this offense.

Let's break this game down. Wanky right. Wanky left and Wanky up the middle. This kid is phenomenal.

Tonites action.

Quite simply. Wanky is gonna find a way to win games for USF.

Dudes a player, but that 40% completion is concerning. A low completion percentage is what has been killing this team.

is it that he's not getting the wr a good ball or are they just not catching them?

Everything I've read gives the impression that the team around him simply isn't that good. He is willing his team to victory more or less like a Daniels or Grothe did for us

Just updating some of the statistics from above.

Again I point to the concept of progress. The statistics continue to show progress that seemed to start against American Heritage.

Below are the first four games of the season for Wanky:

vs. North Miami Beach (W 38-21): 6 of 17 for 200 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT, 8 runs for 132 yards, 2 TD

vs. Norland (W 26-7): 4 of 12 for 76 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 11 runs for 143 yards, 3 TD

vs. Booker T. Washington (L 6-35): 3 of 18 for 56 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT, 15 runs for 21 yards, 0 TD

vs. Edison (W 40-0): 5 of 12 for 128 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT, 3 runs for 61 yards, 2 TD

Total: 18 of 59 (30.5%) for 460 yards (25.6 yards per completion), 8 TD, 4 INT. 37 runs for 357 yards, 7 TD.

And below are the last four games of the season for Wanky:

vs. American Heritage (L 22-26): 14 of 24 for 258 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 11 runs for 14 yards, 1 TD

vs. South Dade (L 14-28): 12 of 24 for 150 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 13 runs for 104 yards, 0 TD

vs. Cardinal Gibbons (L 30-31): 15 of 29 for 250 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 10 runs for 26 yards, 0 TD

vs. Monsignor Pace (W 38-32): 12 of 24 for 197 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 6 runs for 87 yards, 1 TD

Total: 53 of 101 (52.5%) for 855 yards (16.1 yards per completion), 6 TD, 4 INT, 40 runs for 231 yards, 2 TD.

What you're seeing statistically is the player maturing into more of a passer rather than a runner. When you run a halfback option pass, that guy's going to throw deep pretty much 90% of the time. But that's not a quarterback, and it's not what you want your quarterback doing. You don't want your quarterback averaging 26 yards per completion at the expense of only completing 3 out of 10 passes. You'd rather the guy average 16 yards per completion while completing more than 5 out of 10 passes.

This is primarily why if you plug in his numbers from the first four games you get a 71.3 pro passer rating, whereas the numbers from the final four games get you an 84.4 passer rating. And in the meantime, he's still dangerous with what he can do with his legs.

He's just got to keep improving. It appears he'll have some stiff competition for the job after all from Mike White, who was phenomenal last night.

Wow spiraled out of control.

So even if White is a stud and starts every game the next 3, it may take a patient kid, but redshirt next year. Backup QB with some wildcat packages for 2 years. Start last 2 years if good enough.

May be an easier sell next year, but it may be nice to have an experienced QB take over for once. We just seemed to go from one to the next (for the most part) with freshman starting most of the games: Grothe, Daniels, White (if he in fact starts the next 3 years and 4 games).

Ok, so let's summarize.  Quinton Flowers verbaled to USF over offers from major schools including Nebraska.  At the time Mike White was on the bench so that did not intimidate Flowers even though White won a state championship, played baseball and was offered by juggernaut Mississippi State..

But now because White has played one game and looked ok but lost.  So now it suddenly becomes intimidating that White played baseball and was offered by Mississippi State?

I gotta say, he looked a lot less lost than Eveld & Floyd, 3-4 years into college ball.

If Flowers comes here & can't win a spot, he can keep fighting, or be like Godfrey & Landi (and many others, I'm sure) and contribute elsewhere.  If CWT offered him a fair shot, and gives it to him, it's up to Flowers to map out his career.

I think the sentence is supposed to read "he looked ok but (the team) lost".
