Mitchell's group has invited local political and business leaders to the Tampa Club, atop the Bank of America building downtown, for the official unveiling of VSI Tampa's plan — a 28,888-seat stadium with a retractable roof, a $50 million soccer academy and a $250 million sports medicine center.

^^ Maybe we need to get in on this deal and split a 50-50 deal with them for this stadium

Soccer is NEVER going to take off in this nation... let alone in Tampa.

Its obvious that these people must be working for the Joker since they have money to burn on this crap. They also must not understand how to read because RayJay was built to accommodate major league soccer.

With that said, since these people are obviously fools USF should approach them and see if they will build it on our campus so our soccer team can benefit from it, and make it so that the stadium can be easily changed over for real football. would be a cheap and easy way to get an OCS for football.

Of course we would need more then 28K in seating... I think 40K should do the trick.

soccer has already taken off... and it will continue to take off with the demographic shifts in this country.

it is the most popular youth sport offered in this country... its just a matter of time before it becomes the nations #2 sport imo.

And just to note. There is no chance a Tampa Soccer Specific Stadium would be used for crossovers with USF.

If the university got off their asses and pushed hard and included a chunk of land and funding, there would be an outside shot, but I really don't see it happening. The MLS wouldn't want the stadium to be too big for the soccer team and realistically the minimum USF should consider is about 40 or 45K with expansion potential.

The MLS would much rather prefer a stadium for 20-28K and expandable in the future.

is it really that far fetched? wasn't that what Nova was trying to do to move up to the BE for football?

also, if they're looking to spend a bunch on a medical facility, why not partner w/ USF.

MLS was the reason the Nova deal never happened... they quashed that.

Actually Pitt and UCONN quashed that.

Well sure it does... Of course the stadium wants more events... it's owned by the local county so it's more revenue for them.

MLS on behalf of the Philadelphia Union advised them that it didn't want Nova playing at PPL Park because the MLS and CFB seasons overlap and the pitch couldn't handle both teams (It's natural grass). Pitt and UConn actually killed Nova's application from the conference side.

If you notice, the only two MLS teams that share stadiums play on artificial surfaces so they can be switched out.

Even if Nova had been able to move up it wouldn't have been at PPL Park... most likely they would have shared Lincoln field with Temple and the Eagles.

MLS did awesome the last time it was here...oh...wait...

We can barely hold an NFL and MLB team here, what makes you think we can hold an MLS team??? On a national level, soccer is not up to par with fb, baseball, or basketball. Say what you want about little league and pee wee soccer, I wanted to be an astronaut or a fireman when I was a kid (just like a million children) but that doesn't mean we're about to see a big swing in applications for the two positions. Soccer in the US will remain an afterthought when compared to our other main sports.

You should all understand this concept, its like USF=Soccer, 'Bama=Football, UF=Basketball, and FSU=Baseball.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
