I'm pretty sure Missouri remained in the Union -- they may have voted to leave, but this was ultimately blocked. Much like Maryland, another Union state where slavery was still legal.

Missouri left, union tried to block it but failed to do so... Missouri sent plenty of troops to the aid of the South

You're both kind of right about Missouri.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri_in_the_American_Civil_War

In the Civil War, Missouri was a border state that sent men, armies, generals, and supplies to both opposing sides, had its star on both flags, had separate governments representing each side, and endured a neighbor-against-neighbor intrastate war within the larger national war.

By the end of the Civil War Missouri had supplied nearly 110,000 troops to the Union and about 40,000 troops for the Confederate Army. There were battles and skirmishes in all areas of the state, from the Iowa and Illinois border in the northeast to the edge of the state in the southeast and southwest on the Arkansas border. Counting minor engagements, actions and skirmishes, Missouri saw over 1,200 distinct fights. Only Virginia and Tennessee exceeded Missouri in the number of clashes within the state boundaries.

merge them now. ironclad agreements. 2 divisions. one champ game. 16 teams.

texas wvu

ttech rutgers

ou uconn

okst cincy

baylor usf

kansas iowa state

k state u of l

missouri tcu

play 7 one your side and 1 or 2 rotating games on other side. essentially keeps what we have intact with the exception of iowa state. they need to be proactive. start a big 16 network that compliments LHN.

Here's an idea... let's have 120 conferences. one for each team. then we are all conference champions.

Now I'm pulling for TX and OU to stay in the Big 12.

Keeping the Big 12 together (9 – teams) and merging them with the 7 Big East football teams. Bingo – 16 team super conference and all of the sudden USF has just upgraded its conference. Playing Texas and Oklahoma would be fun!! The Big Mess would have 7 teams ranked in the top 25 today.

It would be ironic that the Pitt and Syracuse defection would create this opportunity for USF.

Get all 16 teams sign a big exit fee agreement to create some stability.

If truth to WVU rumors, I'll go with:

East: UC/UL/USF/WVU/RU/UCONN

West: TCU/BU/MU/KU/KSU/ISU

Hold BBall tourney in STL and all invited to stay at my place!

If ACC really wanted RU/UCONN, why didn't they pluck them away with PITT/SU?

One way I think things could unfoldis OU and OSU finish their depature from the BigXII and then no one else moves this year. The ACC just added 2 as a hedge and said they are open to 16, but are waiting to see where things go, so they hold at 14 for now. PAC and Texas can't reach an agreement so Texas stays. Big10 decides they are happy and SEC decides to stay at 13 not seeing the value in going to 14 just for the sake of if, happy with their 13.

leaving 7 teams from the BigXII and 7 from the Big East Which merge under the BigXII and drop the bball schools:

Texas

Texas Tech

Iowa State

Baylor

Kansas State

Kansas

Missouri

+

South Florida

West Virginia

Cincinnati

Louisville

Rutgers

Connecticut

TCU

If the SEC does move to 14 either with and ACC team or WVU or Missouri I think Boise State, BYU or a CUSA team moves in.

This could lead to 5 conferences that look like this and none of the current AQ teams are left out and 1 AQ team is added:

PAC 12 - 14 teams

SEC - 14 teams

ACC - 14 teams

BigXII - 14 teams

B1G - 12 teams
