Early take - covid is the driver

It's a reasonable and fair position to take, although some coaches have been arguably much more impacted than others.

Lame excuse, every program has dealt with the same issues, yet USF is handing out extensions for underperformance relative to our peers.

It isn't an excuse, it is the reason for the extensions. You can disagree with it if you want, but its an employer realizing that not everyone received a fair shake because of COVID and they are extending everyone as a result. I would say it is loyal and fair and if I were ever considering a HC job at USF this would factor into my feelings about the University.

It still doesn't warrant contract extensions across the board. Why are we the only program in the country doing this?

It just seems like this is a bit premature imo.

I don't know Michael Kelly personally, but it seems to me that he is continuing to build some loyalty among those who work with him and hoping that results in a desire not to disappoint. It's not a bad approach as long as you know the individuals and are relatively certain that's how they're likely to react. What could USF Athletics be if we got behind it with our donations, our attendance, and just a generally positive mindset? We'll never know right here in this little digital cesspool, but it's worth contemplating . . .    🙂

I get it... COVID, Stability, 10 year plan, sustainable success, yada yada.

I'm just not buying it and I don't think it's too much to ask for a .500 record in football and basketball.

fair enough, i think based on what I heard VPMK would agree.

HOWEVER, I think VPMK wants that consistently over the next 10 years, and not here and there (ie not only in 2023/4, only to have Jeff leave and we are back to square one, and we go 3-9, and a coach rebuilds, and he wins 10 games, and on and on forever). He thinks this is the best way. Reasonable people can disagree on that.
