He writes good articles, but he is a spokesperson of USF Athletics and will only tell the sunshine and happy stories.  We need a dedicated beat writer that is not afraid to rock the boat and tell how things really are.

You need a dedicated beat writer to tell you how things really are?

Johnston is doing great work now for USF athletics. I've always enjoyed reading his stuff.

Joey is excellent and is an alumnus who really cares. But his work is all internal which is fine but swings the objectivity and breaking news to the other side.

Fair point, I think the positive aspect of a beat writer is that it reaches people who are not USF fans or follow the program closely. Of course the paper media is not what it once was (I read the Boston Globe electronically), but at the same time, it is not completely it irrelevant either.

Agreed. Although there are still some of the human interest type articles in between game reports, it's not as many as there was with even a kind of dedicated writer ...... and the "paper" media isn't what it once was but agree again that it's definitely not irrelevant, no matter how much some think it is or want it to be.

And when some people want someone to rock the boat and to know how things really are, what they mean is they want a BM type to "dig" up the type stuff they can ***** and moan about.

Disgusting take. Brett McMurphy is a vile human being and I wish the worst of existences upon him. No matter how you read this, I assure you that my passion is infinitely more intense than you are imagining. Evil, vile human.

It's still my take. I don't know McMurphy on a personal level, so hard for me to get so impassioned about disliking him.

Even McMurphy with seemingly an axe to grind against Leavitt and USF served a purpose. That, I contend, is better than we're getting from the largest local newspaper in our market that doesn't even find USF important enough to dedicate a beat writer to. TBT's apathy toward USF speaks volumes.

No, as soon as we hit that mark year after year you and others would want more. It’s only human nature.
