Guess if 4 wins it makes us a prediction buster....It's the coaches jobs this season to get their players to play up to the level needed. We can say they were CS players or FCS caliber players but, it's time to coach up. This season is on the coaches.....we shall see.

I agree...this is year we find out what type of coaches we have. Last year wasnt a good sign so far.

If they aren't that great with the talent we have expect 1 or 3 wins.

If the coaches can get the most possible...4 to 6 wins tells me next year will be when things should start to really click for this program.

I went through the roster the other day and you’re absolutely right. There are still going to be a number of guys high on the depth chart this year who have no business being there, but there are no other options - yet. At least we jettisoned the undersized safeties we had been running out there. That’s a step forward. We have some speedy guys at RB, but they’re all too small to be a featured, every down, D1 back. No Mack, Tice or junkyard dog. The D-ends? Not a D1 starter among them who has size and can run. There’s beef at D-tackle, but none of those guys have consistently made plays in their time on campus - certainly not like guys we’ve had in the past. Receivers? Who among them scares you if you are an opposing D coordinator? No one even close to MVS, Rodney Adams, McCants. O-line? Hmm. Again, some size and experience there, but none of them has really performed consistently since they’ve been on campus. Does the lightbulb go on for some of these guys and they figure it out? It’s possible with better QB play to cover up some of the deficits.

Allow me to speak a little optimism into this thread. I will also preface this with of course we need to see more consistency out of these guys, that goes without saying when discussing a roster that was this bad last year. But here are some of the guys that are being slightly undervalued.

QB: I’ve been on the Cade Fortin bandwagon since he transferred in. Going back and watching his UNC film, you can see why Jimbo liked this kid. I don’t think he has the ceiling to be a QF level impact player for us, but I do think he can be better than Barnett and others that have followed. This alone would be a massive improvement.

The QB play we got for a majority of last year wasn’t acceptable. I appreciate J Mac and Noah as ambassadors, but for a large part that was FCS level QB play at best. Upgrading even to average D1 QB play would massively raise the ceiling for this team.

WR: I genuinely think theres a decent amount of talent in this unit. It’s hard to really judge a lot of these guys based on last year with the QB play.

Latrell Williams is a legit talent. Elite speed, and showed flashes last year. With better QB play, I expect Latrell to become the primary playmaker in this unit. Ideally, he would probably be a #2 on a contending AAC roster, but the talent is legit and he fits the speed profile that has helped us in the past (MVS/Rodney/etc).

Omarion Dollison: Again, we saw the flashes last year. Juiced up slot WR who can be dangerous in space. Paired with Latrell, there’s at least a really nice speed element already with both on the field. Expect them to find ways to get OD the ball 5 times a game minimum.

Yusuf Terry: Transfer from Baylor. Went back and watched some film on him from last year...not a ton of reps available and their QB play wasn’t great either, but this kid is a legit D1 WR at minimum. Played meaningful snaps at Baylor as a freshman, made some nice plays on the ball and apparently their staff was very high on his future. Good size/speed combo. Route running was meh, but can absolutely be a zone beater and red zone threat.

At a minimum, Between Terry and Xavier Weaver, we should have a solid 2nd boundary option to compliment Latrell.

X Factor: Jimmy Horn Jr: Keeping on the speed thread, this kid can absolutely fly. Only a freshman so hard to expect too much from a production standpoint, but the staff loves him so expect to see him getting ST and specialized offensive reps.

2021 Depth Chart Prediction:

X: Latrell Williams

Y: Omarion Dollison / Bryce Miller

Z: Xavier Weaver / Yusuf Terry

The Fortin -> Weaver and Fortin -> Bryce combos looked great in the spring game. Even when the defender was right there to contest they were still making plays

Lordy! I thought my posts were long...But, you hit on some good points. I'm a Cade fan so hopefully he will show something and stay healthy. If Cade ends up the 3rd or 4th best QB we have ever had we should be productive. Of course, it will take some play calling still waiting on the sensational OC to kick into gear. Yep, lots of wide recvrs...should find 4-5 that can catch the ball and get some yards, Miller always good. In about 4 weeks we will all be getting very very antsy..

I love this kind of analysis.  I am not as bright as many of you when it comes to football (and many other topics I am sure).  But I found myself paging through the roster yesterday and trying to find guys that gave me reason to have a more optimistic outlook.  You've mentioned some of the same names that I had in thoughts - guys that could make a difference.  We have a number of seniors that should play a role too.

Those same seniors have won about  5 games in 2.5 years, however like every year, I am cautiously optimistic until they kick the ball off.  Nice work Ibullive, I love Dollison and believe once we get the passing game going, we can spread it out and actually be a decent offensive team.
