For those that remember he was hired in May 2014 from Manhattan College to be our next basketball coach. Then had to withdraw due to not having graduated from UK as his application showed.

how has he done since then at MC?

2014–15 Manhattan 19–14 13–7 T–3rd NCAA Division I First Four
2015–16 Manhattan 13–18 9–11 6th
2016–17 Manhattan 10–22 5–15 T–10th
2017–18 Manhattan 14–17 9–9 T–5th
2018–19 Manhattan 11–21 8–10 7th
2019–20 Manhattan 13–18 8–12 T–8th
2020–21 Manhattan 7–13 6–12 10th

Thought it would be nice to review as we hear how Heath and Antigua have done recently from the Tribune.

Kind of surprising he's still there ....

So basically our first and second choices in '14 sucked. The other hires that TBT listed as possibilities were:

  • Mike White, Louisiana Tech (has since gone 122-74 with Florida)
  • John Pelphrey, Florida (has since gone 14-44 with Tennessee Tech)
  • Donnie Tyndall, Southern Miss (went 16-16 at Tennessee and was fired after the NCAA issued a 10-year show cause penalty for ineligible players at Southern Miss which was the largest imposed on a head coach).

Since we wouldn't have outbid Florida or Tennessee, the best outcome would have been Pelphrey. Good to know we were never close to making a good hire.

So we have that going for us

It does make me feel better knowing we were going to USF the hire across the board. There are no "what ifs" on this one.

Didn’t we hire a search firm? How does one open one of those? They don’t seem to have much accountability or expertise.

We also kicked the tires of Eric Musselman, who wound up at Nevada. He's now working wonders at Arkansas.

Good to know we are just terrible at picking head basketball coaches
