The only fans I hear still talk about 2007 like it was something was...was...no one...other than you and maybe three others on this board who live in the past.

It’s because they don’t have televisions and college football up in the sad parts of south Canada which you reside, but if you strike up a conversation with anyone down here in America about how you went to USF it will include big wins against big programs, being ranked number two, whatever happened to that coach you used to have and how the program has **** the bed since he left. It never fails and not once has anyone ever brought up Conference Championships because that’s never discussed by any program or fanbase ever in the real world.

The casual football fan knows about the AAC and they usually know who the champion is because they see them playing on New years. They do not have a clue about us beating Clemson, Notre Dame or FLorida state and if you asked about Auburn they would probably say "yeah I saw you guys beat them in the Peach Bowl". Point being regular season games don't mean **** in the end. Championships and Big time bowl games do. Winning the AAC gives us both.

A big win is a guaranteed accomplishment of note and if the winning of the AAC championship leads to a New Year’s Eve bowl and win it would definitely be better as a means to an end but of no value on its own because you can win the AAC and go to Birmingham which we have done plenty of times without the championship.

To who?  how would you quantify that in any way? Just seems like a personal opinion there, so maybe it means more int PUC household but again the rest of the country could give two violation about our regular season success.

So is going to the new year's six bowl better or worse than birmingham, because you don't go to the new year's six game unless you win the championship. And on the flip side, you can beat Auburn in the regular season and sit your ass at home come bowl season.

P.S. the last three AAC champions have played in the new years six and four out of six overall.

Winning the AAC guarantees you nothing other than getting to spin the AAC wheel of toilet bowls, now if our P5 overlords take pity on us and make us that years winner of the hunger games than it is the better option but winning the AAC doesn’t guarantee that.

It's not a guarantee, it's prerequisite

Since we are talking about guarantees. What does winning one game in the regular season guarantee?

A win of note games which is one more than the AAC championship

Technically you will have one more game than the AAC championship even if you lose it, which would not be much of a game of note usually.

If you win against a P5 program it’s something people care about and if you win against a G5 program it’s something no one cares about as evidenced by attendance, coverage and community buzz. Big wins are good in and of themselves however winning the Conference Championship give you hope of maybe getting something of value out of it.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
