Where does a good Cuban sandwich shop fit into all of this?  Separately, what about a sandwich from a higher end restaurant - an example being a steak sandwich at Cafe Ponte, which is one of my favorites?  Would something like that be considered NFL?  Maybe in lieu of an in game discussion during our bowl game we can have a thread to ponder these types of questions.

The key to all of these sandwiches is the bread. 

Wawa and Publix have good bread. La Segunda has a nice Cuban but it is because of the bread. 

Subway's bread in nearly equivalent to cardboard. The same miserable sandwich is nearly edible if you take the bread off and put it in a salad bowl.
