That's all great, and I appreciate you being a "company man" But I'll say it again, I started the orientation on Monday morning at 7:30 a.m., finished it Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. I heard brief presentations from representatives of the financial aid office, counseling center, university police, housing, faculty, you name it. Athletics was absent. Maybe that makes no real difference. Fine. I just expected they'd be in there somewhere with all their other colleague departments on campus. Yes, there was an athletics table in the expo on my way out the door to head home exhausted. And I'm not even concerned with the sales aspect of being there - just the visibility aspect and maybe a little cheerleading to get first-time in college students thinking. In your place, I would absolutely liked to have heard from Athletics, even if it was 5 minutes. As a student, I would have also liked to know about the intramural program possibilities! I was on lock down for two and half hours because there was a potential gunman on campus. Ended pulling a lunch date out it because there’s only so many classes you can look at to schedule. Would it be wrong to ask if anyone was at the table?

Per the request of those running the orientations, we were asked to provide something more engaging than a presentation, so we have been having trivia and prizes throughout the summer. Marketing is there to discuss the Herd Perks app and the sales grouup is there to speak with parents. We have been attending the orientations for years. 2

I am assuming based on the initial post that the video might not have been played.
Popular Post Mike Stuben Posted July 19, 2018 Group: Member Topic Count: 74 Content Count: 2,468 Reputation: 1,139 Days Won: 19 Joined: 04/08/2012 Popular Post Share Posted July 19, 2018 I'm glad John jumped in, who like me has worked what feels like a lifetime of USF new student orientations. There is one fact that a lot of people don't understand, and I'm not calling out Dave, because I could make this same point on 20 different threads, it just happens this is the one trending today. I worked 16 years in Athletics, you can ask John too, as he is over 20 (close to 22 I think, since I just crossed 20 with USF overall). The vast majority of people we worked with are great, hard working people who care deeply about the success of OUR program. USF has been a great story to tell, and we love to tell it. So many incredible things happening, both in Athletics and USF wide. Every time you go somewhere and you wish for more of a Bulls presence, don't assume that someone is slacking off and not doing their job. There is only so many resources, so many human hours, so much money. Decisions have to be made how to use those resources. If you see an opportunity that USF isn't maximizing, of course, feel free to reach out to someone on the inside and make a suggestion. But also fill in that gap. Wear USF gear, talk to the person sitting next to you about how much fun going to the games can be. Be part of the culture you want to see. You go into a store and they have Gator shirts but no USF gear, ask for it, ask for a manager. You go into a sports bar and the FSU game is on the big tv and the USF game is on a side tv, ask for it to be placed better. You don't like when local news spend more time covering the Miami game than ours, send an email, make a call. If you care, make a positive action instead of complaining. No one is asking you to devote your life to USF, but if everyone could do a few more little things, they would certainly add up. Once again, Dave has walked the walk, this wasn't calling him out. This was hopefully a call to action for all Bulls fans. 1
