Just got home from two long days of freshman orientation with my daughter. I think every office/department on campus made a presentation - with one BIG exception. You guessed it: nothing by athletics. Zip. No effort made to fire up a captive audience of incoming freshmen. Argh!

There's that marketing (or lack there of) we're talking about again.

How many people total (incoming students and parents included)?

The actually have a separate event for all incoming freshman that specific to the athletic department.  It's like a giant pep rally and administration and coaches all attend.  So while you may missed out, your daughter wont.

Now that you say that I remember watching this last year on YouTube I believe. I sure hope my kid is there next year to be a part of all of this...

So they have a day for the actual academics only when the parents are there and USF is focusing on the "U" in USF that people are spending tens of thousands of dollars on that will impact these kids far beyond anything athletics ever does for them? Then later, when the kids are on campus, they do something where they focus on the small side piece of college that is sports?

I'm going to need a moment to process this.

Wasn't freshmen orientation required while this pep rally is optional?

I'm willing to bet 1/10 actually show up. Seems like a giant waste of an opportunity.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
