NCAA regional seeding is based on team ranking for both the Fall and Spring semesters:

Sd   Rnk  Team

  1     6  LSU
  2     7  Oregon
  3     18  Virginia
  4     19  Duke
  5     29  Northwestern
  6    31 Arkansas
  7     42 Jacksonville
  8    43  Kentucky
  9    53 South Florida
  10  56 Iowa
  11 69  Georgia State
  12 119 Loyola - Maryland
  13 264 Alabama State

Based on that, USF would be 24 places behind #5, and 34 behind #4.

Using only results for the Spring semester:

Sd Rnk Team
1    2    Oregon
2    4    LSU
3   21   Duke
4   26   Northwestern
5   29   Arkansas
6   31   Virginia
7   36   USF
8   39   Jacksonville
9   42   Kentucky
10  56  Iowa
11  66  Georgia State
12 185  Loyola - Maryland
13 268  Alabama State

Based on most recent (spring) results, USF would be seeded 7th and only 7 places behind #5 and 10 behind #4.

So, we are probably not as big an underdog for advancing as the NCAA seeding suggests.

LSU is a big favorite on their home course.

I read that LSU refused to release their contour maps of the course to the NCAA teams in the regional. They also refused to allow the teams to have someone fly over the course to produce their own contour maps.

There is a debate on whether that was proper of themsince they would have an unfair advantage.

Assuming that both LSU and Oregon are locks to advance, that leaves three available spots.

Those three will most likely come out of this group of seven:

Using the Spring results only:

3   21   Duke
4   26   Northwestern
5   29   Arkansas
6   31   Virginia
7   36   USF
8   39   Jacksonville
9   42   Kentucky

Wow is that fair and ruly by the NCAA? That clearly gives one team a distinct advantage. Is that typical of these types of tournaments ?

I have no idea.

Some people have compared it to a school not providing course yardage books to other teams.  I believe that it is common to furnish them to teams. I don't know if it's obligatory.

Every team has a right to information. One team has no right to restrict it. @GolfweekRingler @CassieStein25 @RyanLavnerGC

@GolfweekRingler @CassieStein25 @RyanLavnerGC Seems like @lsu is taking the contour map controversy into their own hands? Unfair to teams? pic.twitter.com/tqggVqp75Q

It's early, but USF is off to a good start (currently in 4th), with Kentucky, Duke, and Northwestern getting off to a shaky start. Let's hope they can keep it up.

We're currently 7th just one stroke behind Kentucky and duke. Lsu leads which shouldn't surprise anyone as they were the only ones who knew the course
