He's only 26 years old; he made a poor choice of entertainment options.

I'm glad he's going to be all right.

The fact that he is 26 has zero to do with this.  This is something that a 10 year old should know.

Yeah, but give that 10-year-old millions of dollars to do with as he pleases, and tell me a lot of those "daddy said..." lessons don't go out the window.

plenty of millionaires that haven't blown their hand up with a firework.  especially those who depend on their physical ability to make that money.

I hope he is ok but that doesn't change the fact that this was just plain stupid.  his age or money doesn't change that.

sort of disagree there, although there's no question it was stupid. In my experience, bags of money + youth = "watch this"

Really glad to hear it wasn't as dire as originally reported. Sensationalism...sheesh.

There are several givens in life but dumb people do them everyday:

Smoke

Drink and drive

Play with fireworks

Don't wear sunscreen

With as much information as there is in these topics you would think people would learn.

Dumb!

Text and drive

Drive while sleepy

Don't wear seatbelts

Don't wear helmets

That's most of the big ones I can think of.

Don't wipe your butt with fiberglass insulation, even though it's soft and cushy.

Adam Schefter

@AdamSchefter

34m

JPP has burns on palm, 3 fingers. 1 finger could have nerve damage. Didn't lose any fingers, team thinks he'll be OK, per @DanGrazianoESPN.

Team thinks he'll be ok, but they pulled their long term contract offer.  Not a ringing endorsement.

Report: Giants pulled $60 million offer to Jason Pierre-Paul after fireworks incident

The New York Giants are pulling a long-term offer that they made to defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, according to a report.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes that the offer was for $60 million and the Giants pulled it after Pierre-Paul injured his hand in a fireworks accident over the holiday weekend. While the Giants are reportedly concerned about the timing of the mishap and the “apparent judgment displayed” by the 26-year-old defensive end, the decision to pull the offer should not affect Pierre-Paul’s current situation with the team. He had no intention of accepting the deal and still had yet to sign his franchise tender, which is worth $14.8 million for the 2015 season.

Pierre-Paul’s best option at this point appears to be signing the tender, though the Giants could even pull that offer if they so choose. They could also place Pierre-Paul on the non-football injury list for 2015 and not pay him a dime, as we explained in further detail here.

Pierre-Paul is arguably New York’s best defensive player, having recorded 12.5 sacks and three forced fumbles last season. The best case scenario for both sides would be that early reports of Pierre-Paul mangling his hand pretty badly were inaccurate.

However, it should be noted that Pierre-Paul was reportedly still in the hospital as of Monday afternoon — two days after the accident. Doctors are supposedly still working to determine if he has nerve damage. At this point, it seems safe to label the injury “somewhat serious” at the very least. If not, you would think

Pierre-Paul would have been out of the hospital by now.
