  1. Actual attendance at the SMU-Tulsa game looks to be about 5k
  2. One of the announcers in this Memphis game just said that UCF is "considerably better" than USF all-around. He doesn't realize that we haven't opened up the offense yet.
  3. I also think that this year's team would have matched up far better against that 2016 Temple team, and beat them.
  4. This is exactly right. This offense is not always pleasing to the eye, but I'm waiting to see what the full body of work looks like.
  5. That is the hope. They seem to open it up only when necessary, like the SJSU game when they were in a little trouble for example, or the play call to Tice late in the Tulane game. With our schedule, and the ease with which we are winning most of these games, it's possible. I can't remember a team ever doing anything like that though. It's usually...what you see is what you get.
  6. Open it up if necessary. We may be able to keep it vanilla, and still beat Houston. If he's holding anything back, save it for the UCF game if possible. Would be great if they can throw stuff at UCF that they hadn't seen on film.
  7. I guess it's worth mentioning that the combined record of our FBS opponents (not counting Stony Brook) is 13-33. It's entirely possible that we have ONE team on our schedule with an above .500 record at the end of the regular season. It's the main reason why I can't take any playoff talk seriously...
  8. That is a positive I guess, but I don't like the lack of stability, and constant rebuilding. Would be cool to look forward to the Taggart/Frost match-up year in, year out. As soon as a coach proves he's worth a crap, he's off to the P5. Truly is like the Farm system in Baseball. AAC=Triple-A. Hope the Big 12 reconsiders expansion before too long.
  9. Q's ability to make something out of nothing with his legs is irreplaceable, no doubt, and I'm not sure Kean/Olakudon is the better passer. In the few plays Kean was in there against Temple last year, he looked like a statue in comparison, and they were able to get heavy pressure on him and cause problems. 'Course, we haven't seen him get significant playing time after getting a full week of practice with the first team offense, so who knows. Whoever does start next year will have to be a FAR better passer to make up what Flowers was able to do with his legs.
  10. 6.7 per carry for the entire 2016? That's insanely high..
  11. That is absolutely pathetic. Those people should probably consider getting a hobby. I do think he will get the boot sooner rather than later though. For those unhappy with Strong and Company, maybe you won't have to deal with him much longer. IMO, it's still a work in progress here. We will know a lot more about him as a coach in the next few weeks. Love the 7-0 record, but it would have been very hard NOT to be undefeated with our talent and schedule. Will be interesting to see if we open the playbook against UCF, or clam up and go ultra-conservative against a good defense. They don't seem to have a ton of trust in Flowers throwing the ball.
  12. Meanwhile, at UF..... http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21128125/jim-mcelwain-florida-gators-coach-says-family-players-receiving-death-threats
  13. Temple scored 46 against us, Florida State 55. Any semblance of a defense would have helped.
  14. We've also had several punts and other kicks being nearly blocked as well. Strange that they can't get that corrected. It's like Raymond Woodie is our Special Teams coach.
  15. I predicted three losses after seeing the SJSU and Stony Brook games, but this team finds another gear when necessary. UCF is the only one that worries me.
  16. I don't recall seeing a play designed like the one to Tice on that late first down run. It was a brilliant call when we really needed one. We also managed to throw the ball better than usual when we needed it against SJSU. We might see the whole playbook vs UCF, including things we hadn't previous seen (hopefully). Our schedule has basically been a series of scrimmages when you consider the competition. If he can get away with keeping it vanilla, which he's been able to do, then maybe he's saving something. Unlikely, but possible.
  17. You're probably right about the offense, but that late call to Tice gives me some hope that Gilbert has something up his sleeve that he's saving for the right moment. I can't believe there's not more to his playbook than what we've seen so far.
  18. Penn St. at Ohio St. should be a great one. Ohio St. would still be ranked ahead of us even with two losses, unless they get absolutely smashed in this game. I know it won't happen, but could you imagine UCF tripping up in this game? Austin Peay hung around until late in the game with Cincy, but wound up losing 26-14. I like the idea of us vs UCF in a high-profile, unbeaten match up, but it would be hilarious seeing them fall on their face against Austin Peay.
  19. I remember before the season started, Strong said something along the lines of....our offense scored too quickly in 2016, not giving the defense rest, and that more prolonged drives were needed. I wonder if Gilbert's conservative play calling is at Strong's direction.
