  1. Well, they kind of are, actually...at least this year. They definitely are by G5/AAC standards.
  2. UCF's defensive rankings here might be affected by garbage time yards given up. They've had two close games...at SMU and at Navy. Nobody else has come within 3 touchdowns. They've also had a tougher schedule. We can't afford another off night by QF, or our defense giving up big plays, or our special teams allowing kicks/punts to be blocked. Everything will have to click to win this. Nothing wrong with thinking positive, but this almost feels like a DJ thread. Almost seems like some of you haven't been watching....
  3. Absolutely agree. No way he leaves FAU for another G5 team. I read an article where he said he planned on coming back to FAU for at least one more season. Said they had most of their starters coming back, that he loved the area, and had family that lived in the vicinity. I don't know of anything negative he's brought to that program, so far at least...
  4. Win or lose though, FAU was coming off three straight 3-9 seasons, and Lane has them 8-3, and they actually received 4 points in the coaches poll, which I think is a first for that school. Their offense looks really good as well. They also seem to be getting more media attention this season than in the last ten years combined. He's doing wonders for them, their fanbase seems to love him, and he's winning. Not sure what baggage outweighs all that.
  5. He's about to win the conference title, something no USF coach has done, ever.
  6. Pretty entertaining. Liked the stadium. Like the offense Lane runs. We may be playing them in our bowl game..
  7. Just attended the Shula Bowl, and the popularity of their coach with their fanbase seems to be night and day compared to us. 'Course, that can change on Black Friday...
  8. I was thinking that we might want to add the Shula Bowl to this week's "Games of Interest" thread.
  9. Dog fights against crappy teams though. This, along with the Stony Brook game, was probably our worst performance. A win is a win though. On to UCF.
  10. That close? Maybe at RayJay, but I think it would have to be more than that in Orlando
  11. Any guess what the point spread will be against UCF? I'm guessing it will be in the neighborhood of 14 points...
  12. Both these points may be correct, especially about Woodie. Wouldn't mind retaining Jean-Marie if CCS decides to bolt. As far as Weist, this would have been the year to have him here. Next year, without QF, the GCO would look a whole lot different. I think it's a little too soon to call Gilbert a failure, idiot, fool, etc.... we'll have a much better idea in the next couple of weeks. That UCF game is as big as it gets for us. Gilbert has a chance to shut a lot of people up on Black Friday.
  13. I would have definitely liked to see the GCO back, or at least remnants of it, but as others have pointed out, it might not have looked the same without Adams and Mack. Charlie never sounded too interested in keeping that around though. Didn't he say in an interview in his first few weeks here that the 2016 offense scored too fast, not giving the defense a rest....or something like that? Sounds kinda weird that scoring too fast would be a problem for a coach, but I guess it was for CCS. I get what you're saying, but we will win or lose with Gilbert's playbook. It is what it is.
  14. A very similar situation this year as the one in 2005. We had to win the last two....UConn & WVU back then....Tulsa & UCF this year. The big difference was there was no CCG in the Big East that I recall.
  15. Would have been nice if he did that, but he obviously wasn't interested in CWT's playbook. He was going to do what he's always done. If we win out, the criticism obviously goes away (I think).
  16. This is the only way we were ever going to keep the GCO. Not sure Gilbert was ever going to come in here and even consider learning the previous coach's playbook.
  17. I know what you are saying, and I wish we were still in one of the Power Conferences, but all we can do is win the conference in which we participate. We've never done that. Never really came close until last year. We finally have a shot at accomplishing something. Hopefully we get it done.
  18. But the 2007 team was 9-4, and lost their bowl game. Middle of the pack Big East team. Even with our garbage schedule this year, it will beat out that 2007 team if we win out. We've never put together a great season. Big wins here and there, but zero conference titles. Win the conference this year, it will be our best ever season, despite the conference we are in.
  19. The 2007 team lost to 4 unranked teams if I remember correctly. Elon & FAU kept it close with us also. None of those teams wipe the floor with this year's UCF team IMO. We were really good for the first half of the 2007 season, but inconsistent outside that. We were destroyed by an unranked Rutgers in 2008 (49-16 at home), and 2009 (31-0). From 2006-2009, we were what our record said we were, a 4 or 5 loss team in one of the weaker BCS conferences.
  20. Morgan State was 0-1 coming into this, with a 17 point loss to Binghamton. I don't follow basketball too closely, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is a really bad result.
  21. Muhammad Ali, then Cassius Clay, was given smelling salts in between rounds after he was dropped by Henry Cooper. That, and a delay for a torn glove, probably saved his behind. Haven't heard much about smelling salts in a long time though. Also, I thought people were only given those to wake back up after being knocked silly, not BEFORE competition. ..
  22. I thought the same thing. Their offense is about as good as our 2016 offense, but with a much better defense. Should be an interesting game, but we will be around 10 point underdogs I'm sure...
