  1. I didn't think we would lose until their QB crossed the goal line. After our FG, it was just....let's see if we can stop them, which I thought we could. Great play by their WR to come down with that 4th & 24, and a great play by their QB on the TD. It happens.
  2. No doubt about this. Lose here, and we might as well start gearing up for FIU, who Butch Davis has playing pretty well actually. Just beat a 6-1 Marshall team, and off to their best ever start.
  3. Both UCF and Memphis still have to play SMU (UCF @ SMU). Funny that Toledo still has a legit shot at an NY6 Bowl. Not sure they were previously on anybody's radar.
  4. A better outcome vs. UConn this time is my main concern. The Rutgers loss was worse though. We get past UCF and win the conference, which is still a possibility, I'll be very happy with this season.
  5. Several missed opportunities in the game. I think Houston twice muffled punts, one bounced off the back of one of their players, and we failed to recover. Mazzi dropped a sure pick-six. Failing to convert on 4th and short deep in their territory. And of course, giving up the 4th & long. Unlike the Temple game last year where we simply got our ***** kicked, this is one we should have had, and let slip away.
  6. One of those cupcakes is Tulsa, who doesn't have a great record, but they did smash Houston and nearly beat SMU. Better not overlook them, or we could be out of the race before we even get to the UCF game.
  7. So, if QF threw it well...but only by his standards...and it wasn't good enough to beat a team who was stopping our running game, do you have doubts about him being the guy at QB for us? We will certainly run into this problem again, and Gilbert won't be changing anything.
  8. Not sure what they could have possibly been thinking here. One of the announcers mentioned that he wasn't sure the thought process was behind why they were doing that.
  9. I didn't do any research, just guessing. The division record will likely be the same, and I doubt it would be common opponents. Can't imagine it being anything other than ranking. Wonder if Point For and Points Against would be possible?
  10. The title of this thread is hilarious. Love it.
  11. Would it not come down to ranking? If we manage to get past an undefeated UCF team, we'd probably be ranked the highest.
  12. Luck or not, the "L" is indisputable. Just curious, if, say, UCF is shutting down our running game, and Q is playing like he played tonight, what's the solution?
  13. I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one. He did misfire on a few occasions, but that was one of his better passing games (not saying a whole lot there, I know), and he did not turn it over. The coaching staff was more responsible for this, particularly the time management on that last drive. There are a few factors that could be pointed to for this loss, but QF isn't one of them.....or at least not a significant factor, in IMO.
  14. 23-38 for 325, 60% completion percentage isn't bad. There were far bigger contributing factors to this loss than Q. It still came down to Houston basically coming up with a miracle 4th & 24 conversion. Q did his part. Houston got lucky.
  15. Very good assessment. The GCO would definitely look different without Mack & Adams. Figuring out a way to take advantage of Flower's strengths would be a big step forward.
  16. On a positive note, QF threw it pretty well today. 23-38 325 yards. He seems to start many games by firing shorts passes 10 yards over everybody's head, then settles down. MVS 10 catches 186 yards, and 462 yards of total offense. They definitely need to be more creative as far as play calling, but it really came down to our failure to knock down that 4th & 24 pass. On to UConn.
  17. This is what I'm afraid of. We'll come out with the same bland offense as always. Will still fail to make the most of QF's strengths. I guess it should be mentioned though, that Houston is a pretty good team, and it took a David Tyree-type miracle catch for them to squeak this one out. Defense looked good mostly.
  18. There's no doubt we go if we win out, I just have doubts about us winning out. Who do you see ahead of us if we win out?
  19. We finally played a team with similar talent, and couldn't win at home. UCF will be more talented. Anybody expecting Strong to out-coach Frost?
  20. Agreed. I'm not comfortable with Strong/Gilbert in a must-win game at UCF though.
  21. You guys out coached us. Great game though. The RB Car looked good. A conference championship is still on the table for us, but it's hard to imagine us winning at UCF. Will need to force two or three turnovers to have a chance in that one.
  22. We weren't going to the playoffs anyway, and we still have a clear path to NY6 bowl. Just win out. I guess there wasn't more to the playbook after all. Even the announcers were questioning whether or not we could be a little more creative. There are a million plays you can call with Flowers at QB, yet every 4th and short is a run up the middle. Frustrating to watch. Skip Holtz-like time management at the end there too. Our first test of the season, and we failed it.
