Pre-UCONN projection USF #7 vs Gonzaga in a region with Baylor, Maryland & Oregon State.

At this moment, 7 of USFs Opponents (UConn, Maryland, Kentucky, Chattanooga, Oklahoma, Stetson and Tulane) are projected for the tourney, another 3, (East Carolina, Villanova and St. Johns) should go to the NITs. I wonder if that is an average tourney team schedule or if it is considered a tough schedule.

I would say below average. Our RPI's 26 but our SOS is in the 70's

Calculating the average SOS of the 64 teams (after the season, but before the dance) would be an interesting exercise, though.

Give a data junkie a challenge........

You are correct sir, as of right now, the (my) 64 projected teams have an average SOS (according to RPI) of 0.5405. And as you know USFs is 0.5349

That's a very good bracket for us. We could realistically win it.

We are about to play UConn twice in a week, my hunch is that our strength of schedule I about to go up.

Remember, well over 300 Division 1 basketball teams, so a SOS of about 60 is in the top 20%.

I agree that it would be a great draw for us. Ideally, we want to be a 6 or 7 seed. It is imperative that we avoid the dreaded 8/9, as the gap between the top 3 teams (I tend to think South Carolina is beatable) and the rest of the field is sizable. As I said, I would rather be a 10 or 11 than an 8 or 9. Let's hope we get a favorable draw and make a deep run in this tournament.

Do conference tourneys count towards the official SOS?

We're not talking about the average SOS of the 300, but the average SOS of the 64...
