The guy is a facilities fundraiser through and through. Helped raise the money for NIU's IPF and has run other large campaigns too. I like this hire.

Should be his first priority here as far as facilities go ....

BTW, just one of my pet peeves, but why call it "development" ??

Let's be honest and call it what it is - sales.

Being in sales is something to be damned proud of.

Because your final sentence is false! That is precisely why we call it development.

Not sure if srs, but this attitude is what is wrong. Sure, there are some snake-oil guys out there, but NOTHING happens in a business until the product is sold. Sales is THE most important role in the firm.

PA, Chicago, and Seattle. VERY different fund-raising environments

If this guy's good, he also must be good at establishing a network quickly.

Cautiously optimistic, hope he kills it.

I would hardly call NIU (Dekalb, IL) Chicago

The city limits are in Dekalb, certainly, but where do you think most of the fundraising is done?

Very few graduates will stay in Dekalb after graduation, and Chicago is the likely destination for the vast majority who graduate.

NIU has a castle on campus.

Can we have a castle?

But we have a pirate ship at the stadium we rent so it's kind of a push.

The term "salesperson" went away in the 1980s. Almost no one in industry uses it anymore. In most cases the term itself is not inclusive enough toward what someone seeking funding from others is doing.

Link ?

I would hardly call Dekalb a city :)

From the other Chicago land cities.....Sycamore, Byron, Machesney Park.

I actually went to NIU....for 3 whole weeks, then I became smart.
