The AAC blows.  Muschamp knows he'll get a second chance without toiling in the minors.

Auburn is paying $1.6 million to Muschamp to be the DC.  It's a way safer job than jumping in at HC at Houston.  I highly doubt Houston was going to be much higher than that.  Not to mention the he wouldn't get close to half the assistant pool he had at Florida.

Tougher job as DC though. They are anxious to be superior to Bama. Good luck stopping Saban. Wonder how long he gets.

Muschamp is an absolutely proven defensive mind and has been in the SEC the last 4 years.  He knows exactly what he's getting into at Auburn.  Houston's the more risky job for him and it pays marginally better if at all.

DCs not only get fired at whim, they ride the shirt tails of the HC. Auburn wants to return to the Cam Newton glory days and compete for NCs. And they have the money to fire and hire at whim. The DC they just fired, losing the #1 pass rusher for the season, Carl Lawson, didn't help him keep his job.

He could get fired next year from Auburn and still pick up a Houston level HC job.  If he washes out from Houston, he's done as a HC.

He'd get three years at Houston, maybe 4. And if he washed out there he doesn't deserve to be a head coach at a P5 school.

Right, he can DC at Auburn for 3 years and possibly pick up a P5 HC gig.  If he gets fired from Auburn, he can pick up a Houston level HC gig then get 3 years to prove himself again.

The DC he's replacing only got two years, one of which was bad. So I don't think 3 is a given at all. One bad year and he's gone.

Leavitt may be coming to Florida. There's a billionaire in Miami who wants Harbaugh real bad.

Still think Michigan is more likely than Miami. Ross wants him at UM more than he wants him in Miami.

Doubt it.

Sadly, I think that's starting to change now. However,  I don't think Ross envisioned these last two games to play out the way they did.

This is a fascinating discussion.

I'm quite sure that Muschamp has a better idea of what is good for his career and where he wants it to go than people on this board.

(Auburn for 3 years = $4,800,000) + (Houstonish HC job 3 years = $5,000,000) = Easy retirement
