How so? 5 years $6.75 million is $1.35 million a year. That's the going rate for a first time head coach even at a big time school. Wisconsin only gave Gary Anderson $250,000 more in his deal as an accomplished head coach. Edited December 16, 2014 by JTrue

It's a way safer job than jumping in at HC at Houston. I highly doubt Houston was going to be much higher than that. Not to mention the he wouldn't get close to half the assistant pool he had at Florida. Tougher job as DC though. They are anxious to be superior to Bama. Good luck stopping Saban. Wonder how long he gets. Muschamp is an absolutely proven defensive mind and has been in the SEC the last 4 years. He knows exactly what he's getting into at Auburn. Houston's the more risky job for him and it pays marginally better if at all. DCs not only get fired at whim, they ride the shirt tails of the HC. Auburn wants to return to the Cam Newton glory days and compete for NCs. And they have the money to fire and hire at whim. The DC they just fired, losing the #1 pass rusher for the season, Carl Lawson, didn't help him keep his job. Uhhhhhh, you realize what bowl they played in last year, right? Wanting to get back to the glory days of last year... hmm... Maybe if DW wanted that he wouldn't have given our coach an extension after missing out on a bowl game completely. If he washes out from Houston, he's done as a HC. He'd get three years at Houston, maybe 4. And if he washed out there he doesn't deserve to be a head coach at a P5 school. Right, he can DC at Auburn for 3 years and possibly pick up a P5 HC gig. If he gets fired from Auburn, he can pick up a Houston level HC gig then get 3 years to prove himself again. (Auburn for 3 years = $4,800,000) + (Houstonish HC job 3 years = $5,000,000) = Easy retirement Muschamp has more than enough money to retire already. Not really sure why this is even a conversation. No. Did they compete. Yes. I'd say most fans of college football didn't think Auburn should have been in that game at all, their Alabama win was last second skin of the teeth fluke. I meant they want Auburn to be the next dominate team in football, like Bama is currently, or FSU seems to perhaps on the verge of doing. This season shows they aren't there.
