El Puerto in ybor is way better for the money. La Teresita is a staple next to the stadium. Friday is ropa vieja day, Saturday is roast pork. Great Cuban food for less than $10. Tacoson blows taco bus out of the water, but not really close to the stadium. Tacoson is for people who want to seem like they know a local place that's better than the popular one. There's a reason Taco Bus is one of the top 10 food trucks in the country, as voted on by customers. I have been to taco bus once, and have no plans to ever return. It is a place for people who want to seem like they know what they are talking about when it comes to good Mexican food. There's no such thing as good Mexican food in Tampa. There is, however, good food made by Mexicans. My Mexican friends & in-laws beg to differ, but YOU must be right ... Your Mexican in-laws say Tacoson is legitimately good Mexican food? I'll play my Mexican friends card too and say they prefer the Taco Bus, though they say neither would really stack up as authentic. So we'll have to agree to disagree. You have to go out to Plant City if you want to find good authentic Mexican food. When I used to work at a grocery store while at USF there was an outstanding no frills taqueria right next door. There was also a deli inside of a Mexican grocery store that did some amazing things too. But honestly not much was better than when the ladies would come around with the buckets full of fresh made tamales. I haven't had better Mexican food anywhere in the state than I have in plant city, and Tacoson, Tacobus, etc aren't even coming close to the stuff out there. Just follow the migrants/field hands and you will not be disappointed. Also, the best non authentic tacos are from Capitol Taco out in Pasco...... There's probably a course for exiting a building with a minimal number of windows that Bern's employees have taken ...

There's great Mexican food in Plant City, but I think the best "taqueria-style (quick Mexican)" is in Clearwater at La Cabaña Del Tio, 1709 Drew St., Clearwater, FL 33755, (727) 466-0504. It blows Taco Bus and Tacoson out of the water, and I'm even a fan of Tacoson. If you're looking for authentic Mexican restaurant in a more upscale environment then Casa Tina's in Dunedin or Catrina's Cocina and Galeria in the Palma Ceia (South Tampa) area. The chocolate mole' at Casa Tina's is incredible, but I'm thinking a guy coming from Texas can get his fill of authentic Mexican restaurants in Houston. Thanks for the suggestions I'm always looking for good spots. I'll definitely have to check some of those out.

I will agree that they do have Americanized offerings on their menu. I should have been more specific and stated items like their Tamales, Mole, Menudo, etc. Things that you would never find in Tex-Mex joints. With that said, I can definitely believe that homestyle cooking from the migrant workers would put any restaurant to shame.

Saw where it was listed one of the Top 50 restaurants in the bay area. I go passed it often to visit my mom but haven't stopped in. In a tiny strip mall. It's definitely tiny and can get really crowded but it's worth the wait IMO. Definitely check it out sometime but I would try to go during off hours (weekend lunch time, right after open on a Sunday etc). The place is generally slammed for lunch during the week and has a bit of a dinner rush as well with people coming right after getting off of work. It's definitely worth the wait. We're nothing if not predictable, although the third page is void of any Publix references--they don't have those in TX, you know...

That isn't just visiting fan butt kissing, I hate UCF (beer throwing, self important mickey mouse scum) and all the other Florida colleges. I feel like both our schools are in cities that don't appreciate them as much as they deserve. Also our chancellor (who I mostly approve of) came from USF. So I am going to be at Raymond James on Saturday to watch the Coogs and Bulls. I work and go to school full time but I have started doing one annual random semi UH related road trip to a city I have never seen. This year Tampa was the best fit on my schedule (last year I did Louisville). I have done a nominal amount of Tampa/USF research but what should I do in 2 days in Tampa besides the game? I figured you guys would be the best place to start. You had me at "I hate UCF".
