Good thing it isn't the coaching

He has a point.... Look at the second half of the Wisconsin, ECU, and Maryland games. In the first half things were going our way but in the second half when those teams started to have some success the team self destructs and starts dropping passes, committing mental error penalties, and being out of position on defense by over running plays by trying to do too much. We need to win a few of these tight games one way or another to get over that hump. This collapsing under pressure in the second half has been going on since Holtz Btw for those suggesting this is all on Taggart. Taggart and the staff are to blame as well but to pretend this is all on Taggart shows you're not paying attention....

+1

it's on all of them and the coaches have said as much.

+2 ... is it too hard to believe that our mental toughness isn't quite there yet?

It's definitely better than last year when many of us (at least the ones that weren't calling for Tags to be fired several games into the season) accused some on the team of a lack of effort, of acting like they were just going through the motions.  The first halves against Wisconsin and ECU prove it.

We still just haven't gotten that mean streak yet where we are confident enough in our abilities to overcome adversity.  We will get there, but we are most definitely not there yet.

I realize that there's probably not a lot that can be said to those that are looking for every excuse to dog the coaching staff.  My advice would be to stop reading CWT quotes until the next win.

Funny thing about losing, everything that the coach says sounds stupid.

Yeah, it is funny how that works ... sounds stupid and is dissected to death.

A portion of an article in today's TBT

"Taggart suggests that whatever is going on between halves begins between his players' ears. He calls it 'mental fatigue.' 'When I say mental fatigue, I mean just when things go bad, don't look for other things bad to happen, don't start looking the other way,' said Taggart, whose team can eclipse its 2013 victory total with a win at Tulsa (1-5, 1-1).

'I understand why our guys do it, because it's been consistent for a period of time around here now, and that's something we've got to learn to get out of and change our attitudes. When we're up in games, let's go finish the ball game rather than hoping that we hang on to win it. And when something goes bad, not look for something else to go bad but play the next play and make something go right for us. ' T hat's easier said than done when barely anyone on the roster has won consistently in Division I. Aside from a few fifth-year seniors and transfers, no Bulls player has experienced a winning season in college. Compound that losing culture with youth and teaching a team how to finish becomes trickier.

USF's two-deep chart for the Tulsa game (not counting specialists) features 20 first- or second-year players."

So all of these 20 first and second year players came from losing high school programs?  None of them know how to win?  Must be the players left from Skip's era infecting the team. Couldn't possibly be he isn't motivating them at halftime or instilling confidence in them.

<sarcasm> Nope, everyone of them is a loser. </sarcasm>

Where did he say ANY individual players don't know how to win? As cliche as it sounds, players don't win games, teams do and that's what he's talking about. As a charter member Buccaneer fan, I know exactly what he's talking about. Obviously the situation isn't quite as dire but the team is coming off a run where they've won 5 games in two years. Like the Bucs, it's going to take a coach and some players to step up and put a stop to it. Taggart may or may not be the coach ... players may or may not be here yet ... but it's way too early to start writing either of them off.

I will jump on the bus if we win every game from here on out...

Otherwise, hmmm

It's not a bandwagon.. it's a bus

and you will probably be the first person here screaming, FIRE TAGGART!

actually I'm not even close to the first person. there are plenty of you already that believe he isn't a good coach. I'm not shy about it though. i wanted Holtz out of here and i would feel the same if Taggart wasn't showing progress.

I've seen progress. This program was left in shambles. I am actually starting to believe in this program again. I get excited to see us play these meaningful games again. there is actually hope that we might win them. It's been awhile since i thought that way. It's disappointing that we aren't winning them just yet but I believe we will get there under Taggart.

all you care about is supporting winners. that's the definition of bandwagoner.

Stupid comment. You just described yourself as the bandwagoner...

Why wouldn't I support a winner at USF? Your whole logic is flawed.

No he didn't.  He never said he was off the bus like you did.

You said yourself USF needs to win its final 6 games in order for you to be on the bus.  That is absolutely pathetic fandom.  I wasn't sure you were really a fan to begin with, now I'm almost 100% certain you're not.

and Taggart from TBO

“Now we need to define what it takes to win. We can’t just talk about it. We’ve got to make a play when a play is needed. We need a good call when a good call is needed. We need a good decisin when a good decision is needed. That’s on me. And we’ve got to do these things for the whole game. Learning how to win is not just saying it. We’ve got to define it.’’

again from Bresnahan in the Times

"When you come out in the first series of the second half and you've got (ECU) at first-and-20 and then first-and-30 in the first drive, and then they score a touchdown, that's unacceptable," Bresnahan said.

"And I start with myself, look in the mirror and say, 'What can we do better to get our guys to come out of the locker room and play with the same intensity?' Because they played lights-out for the first half in Wisconsin, lights-out for the first half last week, then we give up a series of plays."

You guys have it out for Taggart. It's quite obvious you see only what you want to see.

LOL funny how that was left out....

That is the used car salesman approach.  Bresnahan talked about himself and the changes he needs to make.  Taggart said "that's on me", then proceeded to explain all the ways that the players were failing.  Just saying the words "that's on me" does not automatically connotate he is actually taking ownership.  I could easily accuse you of seeing what you want to see.

Take off the green& gold goggles.

And become a realist. USF needs to rebuild.

Or rather.. keep on the green and gold goggles... and then freak out when your expectations are ruined.
