If designed to be similar to the Stanford offense, I believe the power offense is more of a grind it out, 3 to 4 yards at a time. If we can move the chains consistently, eat up clock and play tough defense we can put 21 to 24 points a game and win around 6 or 7 games this year. What i want to see is the offense be able to control the ball. If we can be within 10 points going into the 4th quarter and IF (perhaps a big if based on last year's performance), the offense is playing out like it is supposed to be, any game can be winnable. Again, IF this is a power offense, with several powerful backs and a strong OL we should be able to wear down the other defense and take over in the 4th quarter. That is the way it is supposed to work anyway. Now let's see if they can execute it the way it is supposed to be run. All sounds great on paper doesn't it? stanford has top players!!!!! Which always mystifies me, because their academic standards are top tier. Not top tier among athletic schools, top tier among ALL schools. Combined with the fact that nearly all of their athletics programs win championships on a regular basis. How do they do this? What's their secret Classes like these http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/24/class/2014. Can we please stop comparing our team to Stanford, they recruit on a different level (athletically and smarter players). That's my point. Perhaps my question should have read what's their recruiting secret?

If they're that smart, they know a Stanford education is money in the bank down the road and the NFL is statistically a pipe dream so choosing Stanford is almost guaranteed if they offer an intelligent kid.

QB is a year older, more muscular, and has some playmakers to distribute the ball too. Plus, 2nd year of Taggart's offense. Quite simply, I expect more efficiency --> less mistakes --> more touchdowns scored. What new playmakers does White have to distribute the ball to? Adams? Otherwise, it's the exact same team, unless you're counting on freshman. One of the great hopes this season was that Dunkley would finally put it together. He killed it so much in the spring that he was listed as backup across from Davis and changed to defense. LOL. I'm praying we improve on offense based on 3 things: QB improvement O Line improvement (not buying this very much) Stud RB emerging out of Tice/McCray/Johnson/Mack Otherwise, the WR/TE's are the same as last year. If we don't have improved QB reads, an OL giving him more time, and an RB keeping the D in the box, we're screwed. I expect freshmen to play. So yes, my statement was based on that assumption, but nowhere did I say we would be "counting on them." And Adams was certainly accounted for as well in my post. OK, so who are these playmakers we *are* counting on? Davis and ... ? Do we expect Adams to transfer in and put up 500 yards? Or, the TE's to double/triple their output? We could always see more passes to our backs as well. And as stated, CWT is willing to play freshman. We have some great talent that just came in. Very possible they can make a significant contribution. Not sure how you're coming up with the questions you are based off of my post. I was talking about greater efficiency and less mistakes as what I expect to see this year. To continue to belabor this point you're trying to make is to not be concentrating on the bigger picture. We're not in a first year offense anymore, our O-line is supposedly bigger and stronger, and we've added a few pieces to the puzzle. Bottom line, I expect better than in 2013. That's really all I was getting at. What I'm hearing then is, Bigger OL Better understanding of the system Potential freshman contributions That's fair enough. Color me worried though. I don't think it was all a weak OL and system problem last year, I think it was a personnel not fitting the system (or the system sucking). Players that fit said system will be the best thing for the program in such a case, IMO. But, I'm not betting on freshman making that happen immediately. What you're hearing is only leaving out efficiency. I'm not betting on freshman to solve all the problems either. However, much of what hurt us last year was dumb mistakes, like off-sides penalties. If we can get more efficient, cut out the mistakes and do our jobs, we will definitely see improvement this year. All I want is improvement. 4-5 wins is my expectation. Anything beyond that is gravy. That sounds good on paper, but it doesn't necessarily help Duke, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Rice, etc. Especially not this consistently. I'm with char, they're doing something special.
