It's an offer sheet, Joe, not a contract. Thought you were smarter than those guys at Deadspin ... Did OA just sign an offer sheet?

(1) An offer sheet is a contract in NCAA athletics. It just doesn't spell out all the terms of the contract. The big contracts usually aren't signed for several weeks or months.

(2) In the other thread, I said (direct quotes) "Sorry. When a coach accepts a job, signs an offer sheet and then gets it rescinded because of a false resume, it's news."

To which you replied..."

No, you've just been sucked into this gossip riddled generation that has no clue the meaning of what real news is ..."

(3) A coach signing an offer sheet and having it rescinded is news. This guy was our next coach, signed and ready to start...

(4)I know it's tough to admit you were wrong, but you were wrong.

An offer sheet is the proverbial, "agree to terms".  An actual contract would be more comprehensive.

Spin it any which way you want, Joe. I guess I've got a higher threshold for news than you do. Don't care who wasn't our new coach, just who actually got the job ... that's NEWS to me. Maybe Deadspin can dig up some material about Rice or Neal for you to gossip about. They aren't our coaches, either.

People really think that this is not news? Somebody better tell all the news outlets that reported it. Cmon man.

Not people, just me apparently .... and I think I've made it clear that I thought that the "news" outlets of today are pretty much a joke.

Doesn't matter what the title is. A contract is any agreement, verbal or written, that establishes an agreement of the party. The fact that the parties were to sign a more complete contract later is fine but this document is what established the rights and obligations of the parties as to each other in the interim.

It was news. I'm sure 90% of the world would agree.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
