All I know is that the birth of my love of USF athletics can be attributed to Mr. Grothe...he was the heart and soul of what I consider to be the Bull mentality.

I have my reservations based on past antics.

And this couldn't possibly be the best available person.

I kinda do too. But you know what they say, those that can't....teach. There have been people who were much better coaches than players. Not saying Grothe wasn't great, but he had his moments. But that may have been the OC or QB coach too.

This is silly, even for you. "Those that can't, teach"?!? WTF

You've never heard that before?

"Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach."

I don't subscribe to that, but this is a rare moment that slick actually DIDN'T pull something out of his ass. I have the utmost respect for teachers. My mom has been one for almost 25 years.

Thats why most coaches were never great players (and please don't point out ones that WERE). When you have a ton of god-given ability, its hard to put into words how you do what you do. Its the ones who have to work at it constantly that make good teachers.

You knew it was only a matter of time .... Ga was right, though, it's a pretty common saying but you are correct that using it where he used it was pretty silly.

I've heard the saying, genius; using it in that context was what I was crudely questioning. Yes, let's hire a QB coach (or any coach) who can't do what he'll teach. Hey, let's open the position to anyone in the Bay Area who has afternoons and Saturdays open!...got laid off at Burger King? Come be our QB coach because you haven't done it before!! Again, WTF

IF Grothe if even being considered for this position it's because he CAN do it...remember when he did, city slicker? Here, at USF, for our best years in program history?? Or maybe you can't understand logic with my thick Cackalackey accent.

Bobby Eveld will make a great qb coach one day.

Lots of great coaches were mediocre at best players.  The mental aptitude doesn't always translate to the physical side and vice versa.  There are really great players that would make terrible coaches.
