I am trying to figure out why everyone acts like he lost every game at USF by 50 points and left a roster of 1 star players.

8-5 (beat Clemson in a bowl), 5-7 ("just" missed bowl), 3-9 (didn't even sniff a toilet bowl) ... the trend explains it all.

McNeese put up 50 points and has a roster of 1 star players. How we lost to McNeese it wouldn't be a bad assumption.

In simplest terms, Holtz left the program in worse shape than he received it.  That's not progress.

and sonny dykes left his in much better shape. that's why one of them is coaching at Cal(promotion) and the other is now at La Tech(demotion).

I got that, but did you dig deeper and get that a full half of those losses were by 1 score and more than 1 were on the last play?. I believe with the right DC, he'd still be here. And that an older, more established football program he'd probably have another season to try and turn it around. Why? because they understand the ups and downs of programs and that no coach is going to 'destroy' a program. 100 years of UConn football, he took them to the 1aa championships for the FIRST TIME. It wasn't year 1, or 3 or 4, it was year 5. Two of those were 4 win seasons.

Holtz created a hole at the QB position and now that hole is playing in the NFL.

I thought he was at UCLA.
People forget Woulard was likely coming here if Holtz stayed.
Easier to just blame everything on one person. Didn't see one comment about how LATech won its cupcake game. How can that be? He's such a bad coach. What's going to be interesting is that the cupcake that LATech played, that won its first game of the season 75-0, plays McNeese last game of the season. Wonder which cupcake wins? What if LATech's cupcake beats McNeese? What does that mean? Probably nothing, but kinda interesting none the less.
it means he took over a program that went 8-4 last year with 2 OT losses, another 1 point loss and a 2 point loss. they alos beat ole miss and lost to mighty TCU by 7. their coach was hired away to a better program because he was successful. Unfortunately our coach took over a 3-9 team that had losses to ball state and temple with an NFL QB who is now gone. BTW beating lamar by 7 isn't exactly impressive.
Lousiana Tech returns one starter from that offense.

Skip needed to go, we've moved on. He has two of this programs best wins ever. Lets just leave it at that.

yeah their leading rusher who averaged 100 ypg +28 TDs. failed to mention the 4 star senior pro-style QB they have that was rated #10 when he signed with texas tech.

I'm not defending Skip, I'm just pointing out the same thing people are saying with Taggart, he wasn't given a loaded deck.

Who cares about losing by 1 point.  Losing is losing.  Most of those losses were mental collapses at the end of the game.

sorry the situations don't come close.

a walk-on senior QB from the local catholic school to a kid that was in rivals top 250, rated #10 at the pro-style position, and 34th in the entire state of texas.

the starting RB from the #17 rushing offense in the country or the #4 RB from the #66 rushing team in the country.

Dykes left there with plenty of talent on that roster. Holtz loved to recruit tampa catholic and jesuit.

He was too busy trying to cover up his use of poison gas in Syria.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
