It is a combination of last year, fading fan support, a team full of seniors, and the conference shifting (which may leave us out of the big boy table) that has at least myself worried. If we were in a stable conference with fan support, I wouldnt be AS frustrated. The team just appears to be stagnant imo. There are still 9 games left but from the last 15 games or so, this is my feeling. I dont think Holtz needs to go necessarily. Not a big fan of this team's offensive schemes though.

I think that is a big difference between our program and most of the top 40 programs in the Country.

Most of our fans our unrealistic and it is in large part because they probably never followed CFB too close before USF got relevant.

EVERY program has bad years and bad stretches but these programs still have way more fans and way more $$$ then we have over 5 years combined.

We are like the team from the projects trying to make it to the Little League World Series saying gloves and cleats when the teams we are playing are full of ex-MLB player kids who have all the resources in the world.

Did you just call us the Bad News Bears ?

Just playing devil's advocate - one of the criticisms of Skip is that he doesn't have that "killer instinct" ... maybe if he did, which most "great" coaches seem to have, it wouldn't have had to come to down to the last friggin' play?

While at ECU, he set the record for most points scored in a season at over 400, more that the 18 coaches that preceeded him. He also had wins over #17 VT and #8 WVU while he was HC. So to say he doesn't have a killer instinct doesn't jive.

Sounds like he peaked at ECU.

yea i know but did you watch the Cincy, Rutgers, Louisville, WVU, UConn and Miami game? I would say the one game out of those 6 that was on Skip was the Miami game.

the rest...players need to make plays. bottom line

you mean taking a knee and settling for a field goal from the opponents 2 yard line on second and goal with 20 seconds and 2 timeouts left and then losing by 3 points isn't on the coach? he coaches scared.

or calling 27 pass plays in humidity where your QB can't grip the ball properly instead of running the ball when he is averaging 6.5 ypc isn't on the coaches?

what a joke

great coaches can turn around a program in 3 years or less. Rich rod is doing it in one year. bill snyder top 10 within 3 years without "his" QB and coming from 5-7.

No - great Coaches turn around a team in one year. The win results may take a year or two but it changes quickly.

we are in year 3 and we don't seem to be any more prepared for our opponents than we were in years 1 and 2. our gameplans are baffling at times. players look lost and unmotivated. some blame everything on Bj and say let's see when he gets "his" guy in here. If it wasn't his guy then by all means replace him. there is no way a QB of BJ Daniels skill set should be throwing the ball 3 times for every time he runs it. he averaged 4.6 yards per carry last year. I have news for those who think Woulard is skip's guy. he has the same skill sets that BJ has and if he is used the same way then we will have similar results. there are plenty of coaches that win without "their" guy. Holtz likes to say we are a "work in progress'. how can we possibly be a work in progress in year 3 with all the seniors on this team? that's what you build for. an experienced team to show up every 3rd or 4th year. next year will be rebuilding with a new QB and lots of holes to fill. This was the year to prove he can coach here.

I agree, this is also why the media was wanting to hype us a little this year (not #1, but #2 in many preseason expectations). they see the close games from last year, they see the seniors, they see the development in SOME areas, and they expect that this team should be better than last year and close out games and execute. while it's still too early to say we haven't, seeing the first three games shows some of us that it might not be happening.

and i don't get the program age argument some are saying. yes, we're not able to afford certain coaches, but that doesn't mean we can't find one who can develop players and put a winning game plan in place.

i think most people aren't frustrated that we lost, or that it was on a thursday...to rutgers....again. i think that most people are hoping things would just click for this team and we'd be better this year, in every phase. no one expected BJ to be a heisman candidate, or usf to win a national championship....national championships are so difficult to come by, it's part luck that the SEC has gotten it so many times as of late. most people are just hoping things click and they see the play on the field and you can just tell that it's not going to light switch into a badass team that goes 9-3 or better this year, and that's what is frustrating - the hope in sight may never get here.

And.... then there are those who were still in HS when USF began playing football, and think they know everything there is to know about college football!

Had to win the Big "Easy" when after 1 game you are already chasing.

That is true, but I think we'll see each team lose at least 1 conference game this year.

So far no different then every Holtz year. Lose the first two BE games and pretty much make it almost impossible to win the BE .
