Every University that has ever been sanctioned paid their penalties years later. No different here. Agreed, but most sanctions are due to cheating and trying to gain a competitive advantage. The FB team did not benefit from this scandal. the victims were negatively impacted by the scandal. I would have liked to see some of there input in this. I am curious to see how many of them wanted the program to be reprimanded for this. The competitive advantage was gained from concealing the molestation of little boys by the defense coordinator at PSU. Patterno chose to protect PSU Football over reporting what was going on. it actually doesn't give you an advantage. sure you're not put at a disadvantage but it's not like every program has a pedophile and now you have the advantage over them because people don't think you have a pedophile. There are penalties against the whole team and associated fans during games, and for recruiting violations. This is really no different. If it's so necessary those students attend a school with a national championship contender in football, they can always transfer. so you wouldn't have a problem if you were a current USF student and something happened 10 years ago that got us a 4 year ban, 40 scholarship losses, $60M fine, allowed players to transfer, etc? that's what happened to them. sure just transfer...... I think euthanasia is in order. This is the only way for innocent people to be dealt with accordingly. the anarchist got most of what they wanted. Its all good in the hood. 4 people and a crap police department has cost them dearly. The 10 year olds that were part of the cover up got what they deserved!!!!. The court of public opinion has shown that it weilds more power than the judicial system. This is a sad situation. It was going to be lose, lose no mater how it played out. There were too many differing opinions. I think 3-4 years of no revenue plus the civil cases would have been a better fate. I was in favor of hitting them financially with requiring them to donate all FB revenues to charity for 3-4 years. That would have been $210-$290 in donations. Instead they got 1 year of lost revenues and 4-10 years of being a zombie. it would have positively effected more organizations in need, but what do I know. They got hammered and most people feel satisfied. I agree with the financial penalties and they should have been higher. somewhere along the lines of 4 years of tv money and 4 years of bowl money to children's abuse charities. The NCAA didnt take away their scholarships. They were for the FOOTBALL TEAM. That is all it is. A ******* football team. The current students arent affected in the least bit. They are there for an education, not football. Holy **** some of you are putting the football team on such a pedestal. They should be grateful this is all they got. They shouldve had their entire program wiped off the face of the Earth. So they cant go to bowl games for a few years and pay some fines. The vacated losses dont affect anyone but Paterno, who is dead. The current players can and should transfer anywhere they want. That program is toxic now and playing there is a death sentence unless youre an NFL talent. If that is the case, you can transfer anywhere and start anyway. Not saying the student shouldnt be bummed that this happened, but it was MORE than deserved. Football is a game. A game should never take precedent over the safety of children. If this happened to USF, it would sure bum me out, but when you look at the reason this happened, how can you even argue with this? They still get their football games and their Happy Valley. Just like USC this year, PSU will bounce back. It will probably take about a decade, but again, considering the fact that they dont deserve a football team to begin with, they should just stfu and deal with it.

Ok Not reporting the perpetrator did not put PSU at a disadvantage to land some of the top recruits in the country. PSU did not want to deal with that disadvantage. The disadvantage would have meant huge changes and possible losses.

As much as I love football, the university's responsibilities to the community and state are more important. Winning games is not worth the sexual abuse of children. As much as I would hate such a penalty, it would be the least of my worries, while USF's administrators were hypothetically covering for-if not aiding and abetting-a pedophile and his disgusting behavior. I'm all in favor of it actually. I think there is way to much spent on athletics but please don't act all high and mighty and pretend USF doesn't put it's football program on a pedestal. this happened because one sicko and 5 guys 15 years ago covered something up. something that the state police and prosecutor decided not to pursue 4 years earlier.
