"Conference expansion: UCF's Big East dreams could be deferred by Villanova decision"

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/knights/os-ucf-villanova-big-east-0307-20110306,0,5907190.story

It's kind of funny... the story basically screams: "DON'T SCREW US, 'NOVA!" ;D

The comment section is the best......

UCF is still not seeing the 'big picture'. While the BE may be looking to add a team, it's not our best choice. Our best choice has discussed adding teams each of the last two years, yet not done so. The SEC is, by far, UCF's best choice. A dream you say? Consider this:

Alabama has two teams in the SEC, as does Mississippi. The SEC is making the national title game a regular event. Adding Texas & Texas A &M (as they have discussed) gives the SEC a bigger 'footprint', but also means more potential losses within conference play. (don't tell me how bad Texas was this year, they'll be back). Adding UCF gives them a regional school (saving money on travel), a strong television market, (making more money, see the theme here?), and at least in their eyes, a doormat for the league which would guarrantee another win for the SEC's top teams. This would help their chances of making another national title game. Of course, UCF would not just roll over and die (just ask Georgia). But this is the best plan for UCF and Tribble, Hitt, or SOMEBODY needs to be working on it.

The funniest thing about that is IF the SEC expanded into Florida the FIRST choice would be FSU and then USF/Miami might be the second choice (only because Miami is a small private college and doesn't quite fit), and UM/USF third choice.  And in reality after FSU everyone else is a distant 3rd to the Texas expansion scenarios.  Wow  :o

C'mon.  I mean, who wants FSU in the SEC instead of UCF?  What has FSU ever done?  :ROFLMAO

Man, those UCF folks are delusional.

The SEC loves small college town colleges.

First would be Clemson.

Second would be FSU.

Third would be GT.

There's no need to go pass 3rd unless they ngo to a 20 team league because no one would turn down the SEC.

However, they would also like the better education that GT offers.

There is no way that the SEC would ever lower the football standards, especially with a non BCS school.

Of course not - this is fantasy land-type stuff.  It is only intended to soften the (potential) blow of not being invited to join the Big East at this time.  The alternatives to not being invited are not attractive - toil in CDOA indefinitely, or at least until the Big East expands to 12.  I'll note that I don't think UCF is necessarily a bad fit in the Big East.  Ultimately, I think UCF will join.  But I don't like UCF, both because of their hyper-sensitivity to USF having "leap frogged" them in 2005, and also because they like to make grandiose but non-sensical statements like "we belong in the SEC" in order to feel better about themselves.

UCFers constantly live in fantasy land. I mean look how convinced they were that USF was blocking their entrance....yet....now it is obvious, that their entrance is predicated solely on Villanova. If anyone is blocking them.....it is Nova.....not USF.

I think it is obvious now that the Presidents all got together back in November, said Nova and TCU. When Nova asked for more time, the Presidents' said we will wait on their decision. All this "We are not waiting on Nova talk was just posturing.....basically, they were saying if Notre Dame changed their mind....."We are not waiting on Nova".

Well yeah.....I think we all could assume that.

So now the argument by UCF fans is, pick us because we want to be your doormat?  How badly do the UCF fans want to get into a BCS conference?  Pathetic...
