This would not even be an issue if they could see themselves for who they are, unfortunately with their schedule and the "appearance" of success, too many media types have bought into the hype machine driving their fans.  Nothing another winless football season can't fix!

accept who we are? Good thing we don't have you as our leadership, UCF wants to improve, enrollment is exploding despite being the 2nd hardest school in the State to get into for undergrad...Leadership has invested money for athletic and academic facilities and its paying off big time, the ESPN article further explains what Dr Hitt has done at UCF....would you like an FSU fan to tell you, hey USF just accept what you were in 1995 and stop trying? typical myopic usf response

Ummmmmmmmmmm, FSU could say that, but we went into their house an whooped 'em. So an USF alumn response to the FSU alumn would be 17-7.

You assume that USF is not.

That is simply not the case when it comes to USF.

We just got a massive new student union, the biggest in the Southeast, in 2008. We have the Bill Young Hall, which opened in 2006.

A new baseball stadium is on it's way. We also built new residence facilities.

Now a dental school and a pharmacy school are on their ways as well. That's not an academic investment?

UCF talks a big game, but the fact of the matter is that your position is really no better than USF's at best. Please don't forget that we are also in the top fifty of public research universities, and we have top sixty funding nationally when it comes to research.

You're overrating UCF in this regard.

If you want to talk about typical responses, then you again take the cake.

You use a really bad example with FSU. USF will trump them in any conversation about results for at least another year thanks to 17-7.

While I agree that Dr. Hitt and your Athletic Administration have made a much deeper and better commitment to Athletics it does not mean that USF hasn't. New baseball and softabll stadiums will be opened very soon, the football practice facility is set to open with spring practice, the basketball practice facility will be completed this spring/summer as will the new soccer stadium. Couple this with the brand new track that was installed last year and the planned renovations for the Sun Dome and you can say that USF has also made a huge investment in athletics as well.

Bottom line is that your leadership was not good for a number of years, especially with the head start you had in football, while USF started a program from scratch that is being emulated by all new start up programs.

There's nothing wrong with UCF trying to move up, but there's also nothing wrong in realizing that there are more attractive schools out there for the Big East.  In negotiating the new TV contract, Houston is far more appealing due to where it is at.  Having both DFW and Houston in the conference as markets = more $$$$.  So from that end if it's just about expanding to 10 football schools then Houston is a fit if Nova doesn't come on board.

There is the possibility that UCF could be invited even if Houston comes on board if Nova also joins to take us to 12 teams, but I could see the Big East inviting UCF as football only in order to try to hold the conference together at 18 for all sports.  UCF has a large student body, but it exists in a very transient market that the Big East already has a presence in.

Now, had UCF gotten itself together a decade or more ago with the stadium and other facility issues then they might have gotten the invite over USF, but USF already had beaten a top 25 team, had a 9 win season in year 1 of I-A, played in a great stadium, and had broken ground on a new athletics facility.  For trying to stay in Florida back then, USF was really the only logical choice.  I don't think UCF would have made all the investment if not for getting snubbed.

UCF wouldn't move up with a football only invite and i wouldn't blame them because of their commitment to all sports.

USF won 8 games in the first 1 A season and 9 in the 2nd.

The first year was our transitional year, right?  We won nine the first year we were eligible for a bowl game.  At least that's how I seem to remember it.  I loved being at Ray Jay when we creamed BGU and was disappointed when things didn't work out for a bowl bid.

2000 was our transition year

2001 was the first 1 A season and we went 8-3

2002 was the 9-2 season.

As far as I'm concerned, the only reason UCF wants to join the Big East is so that they can get a free shot about USF.

Yeah, the money is nice, but they see USF as a rival, despite that we've beaten them on the field every time we've met.

Defense beats offense every time, and all they have is a QB who they say is good because he threw for 2000 yards and 13 TDs in a lesser conference. You think they're going to be able to handle the USF defense? Unlikely.

We don't see UCF as a rival. They are our kicking post.

Let them join. We'll offer them the first Big East game, just to show how outclassed they truly are.

You really think that UCF wants in the BE because we want a shot at USF??  How about the fact that the Big East is the only BCS conference looking at expansion that has UCF as a serious candidate, instead.  If UCF had a choice between the ACC or BE...do you honestly think that UCF is so hell-bent on USF that we'd choose the BE over the ACC?  Your guys are comical, sometimes.  It's all about BCS...not USF.

Pretty much all of us know it's about the BCS tag.

UCF is not going to be in a position to choose and they'll gladly take anything that is offered.
