The whole we need to market it to the students is BS.

"I asked some friends and they said they didn't know there was a game"

You know WHY they didn't know there was a game? CAUSE THEY DON'T GIVE A ****.

They'll show when we're winning. Beefstud or just regular students...

I disagree, just as you dont agree with my comment. Its not that they dont give a ****. How can you go to something when you dont know that its happening? Not everyone is as die hard as we are, so people dont always know unless they go out of their way to find out when a game is. If you were to walk around campus yesterday, there was no where that showed there was a basketball game last night, unless you drove by the sundome. Thats my point. To the casual student who would like to go to a game, the athletics departments gives no indication as to when they are. Not everyone reads the Bullspen like we do.

It's really not that hard to find out when a game is...

Like someone else mentioned, if they cared, they would know. Students are on their computers everyday, it would take less than a minute to go to the USF website to check the basketball schedule.

You are right, a lot of students dont care....so what needs to be done to GET them to care? What does Tennessee do to get their students out in mass like they do? Yes, I know they are good and tradition, but what can we take from what they do? I'm open to thoughts.

It's going to take a year or two of winning to get them out on a regular basis ...... hopefully. These last two games were a perfect example. The Marquette game one of the largest student turnouts this year (I'm assuming free food and/or beer was involved). They saw a great, exciting finish over a top 10 team yet come Tuesday, it's back to just the usual, real student fans. Signs around campus certainy couldn't hurt if, for for no other reason, to bring in a few who are just looking for something to do but, just like with the team itself, there is no quick fix ...

attendance blows on games monday-thursday. That's just the way it is if your not a big time basketball school. Football is easier because there is more hype to it.

as a student, i can honestly say that if it wasn't for this board I would never know when the BBall games are.

the athletics/marketing department does an AWFUL job for basketball.

There are TONS of exams going on this week.

This is one of the stupidest things I've read on this board today. Can you name for me any product ever that has become popular without effective marketing? Do you even know what the concept of advertising is? The product sucks right now, though it's getting better, so of course it will take more marketing to get people to be interested. That's *exactly* what advertising is.

Please. There is a lot more than zero marketing going on.

When I left USF in 05 people were saying the exact same thing.

Yet the game was mentioned in the Oracle. Signs on campus. Schedules were thrown on pizza boxes. They got the greeks involved (or tried)

I bet you this...we're even a bubble team without anymore avertising than we already have, students might suddenly show up.

I done my share of marketing.

PS - marketing and advertising are two different things. Be careful.
