To be fair, NIL was not intended to be "fans paying players" -- the crux of the court case was EA Sports using real names and likenesses of players in their games without paying for that.  So NIL was SUPPOSED to be for the actual use of name, image, and likeness - which typically falls under the umbrella of marketing and licensing.

The NCAA doesn't really have an answer for the fact NIL has morphed into "legalized" pay-to-play.

The nil is almost all  fans paying players through collectives, businesses that the owner is fans paying , or businesses using players to promote their business.  It is a joke. I never paying a player period.  The ncca should just do a straight profit share from the revenue your sport generates. Yes other sports will make less and some nothing, but they are not bringing in money either for the school and ncaa .

What if college professor started making their own NIL collectives and told thr students they are not giving their best effort unless you donate to them.

The d1 athletes are already compensated with free education, free housing,  free quality food,  top of the line medical staffs ,nutrition specialist, free access to top level strength training, free clothes and athletic wear, and free coaching.  If you add all of the free stuff they get it would be a lot of money .

And it's still not enough. Don't forget Mamma being broken off too- cause of her baby. Lots of people in the kids ears.

outlaw- you want to go bacl to "old america"

the days of exploitation of the student athlete are long gone

schools and coaches made millions and kids got crumbs

prior students should sue for reparations for the last 50 years

It isn't exploitation. The kids are no where near ready to jump to the professional leagues out of high school. They need coaching , strength training, and skill development to become NFL talent. The only money that should be shared legally should be from the NCAA and universities. No collectives aka fans paying players or agents taking advtange of kids like the Florida Gator kid . Fans and businesses paying players is hurting any school that isn't a top program with big donors that are fans.

It will never be enough until college football is completely ruined for anyone not in the SEC or B1G.

This probably would have been a more apropos response to an article where a P5 coach is whining about it. Norvell doesn't get paid multi-millions and he's talking about an offer to his player that's 1/3 of his own annual salary.

he signed a $9m contract. He makes more per year than 99.9% of his fans

Ahhhh good ol capitalism at it's finest. Find a product that will sell, market it, start raising the profit on the product until you find what the market will bear. Obviously, in sports, we haven't found what that number is. We have a $5.5 BILLION dollar stadium, a $700 MILLION dollar baseball player, college kids making SEVEN FIGUREs for playing, etc. We have not found the top of the market yet. I'm mostly with @Outlaw on this one. Although I do donate a minimal amount to the collective and athletics, I have reached my limit on what I will donate. I know that I will soon be priced out of the market, but that's ok because someone else will pay my way to enjoy it in a different capacity the future.

This is spot on. It would be nice if Athletics could somehow recognize money donated to the Collective.

They don’t want to get involved in that, rather reap all the profits and squeeze the fans to pay the bills.
